~ Chapter 4 ~ The New Boss

Two weeks later...

It was now time for the new CEO to take over the company. Mr. Wade senior introduced all the staff to his son, James Wade, heir to his company, and the new CEO. James just turned 31 and was among the most successful, smartest young bachelors in NYC according to my google search of course. He was 6'2 and had a slender but muscular body.

It was a bitter-sweet moment since I had gotten to know Mr. Wade senior, he was a wonderful man to work for. No wonder Sonia worked for him for more than 20 years.

James Wade shook everyone's hand and introduced himself to all the staff.

"I'm looking forward to working closely with you."

"Likewise Sir. Please let me if you need anything!" I said

He nodded and said, "thank you!"

"Let's get started. Should we? Please led the way, miss Jones"

"Yes, of course, Mr. Wade."

After the farewel,,,l party Mr. Wade and I walked to his new office on the 35th floor. The office was painted grey and had wall-to-wall windows and marvelous views of Manhattan. I showed Mr. Wade all the files and records that he needed to have right away. I also scheduled him for a few meetings with our newest investors and I briefed him on his schedule for the next day.

It was indeed a very long day!

____

The next day

Outside of the subway station, the city was buzzing with sounds. The throngs of people, the traffic, and the loud honking coming from the herb of yellow taxis, experts in the field of cutting other drivers off. I inhaled the smell of NY, well more like the pollution and smoke, and headed to my job.

I walked to the lavish building, picked up my boss's coffee from the Starmoon cafe, and rode the elevator to the top floor. Sat at my desk, and turned my computer on.

A big head instantly popped out!

"Good Morning Miss Jones. What does my schedule look like today?"

"Sir you have a meeting with the head of the Red Corporation, Mr. Wellington At 11 am."

"Is that my coffee?"

"Yes, just how you like it. Cafe con Leche mixed just like ... me." Ahh I hope he didn't hear that part

"Thanks... Miss Jones." He smiled and walked back to his office laughing.

Someone kill me now!

_____

"Miss Jones?" He buzzed

"Yes, Mr. Wade?"

"Please make sure that everything is ready in the conference room and all the folders, and copies are completed."

"Already took care of everything sir"

"Did you order lunch from the bistro across the street as well?"

"It's all set."

"You are very efficient miss Jones."

"thank you, Sir," I said

"I also need you to be there to take notes. We will be going over it at the end of the day. I will need you to email the head of the department a memorandum with the new information."

"Noted sir."

The meeting with Mr. Wellington went flawless. The investors were impressed with Mr. Wade's presentation on firewall protection. Mr. Wade was very well equipped in this subject. He had the best of the best working for him. I had no clue about firewalls, malware, and things like that this was all new to me. Mr. Wade offered to train me in the subject. After a few hours, the day was over and it was now time to head home.

______

A few weeks went by and things were getting settled in the office. I was so occupied with setting up meetings and typing notes. I contacted clients, scheduled appointments, created power slides, ran around town, and got stuff done for my boss, the day was over so fast it was now past 5 pm. I shut down my computer and asked my boss if I could leave.

"How about dinner tonight to celebrate the closing of the deal " He looked at me with those blue eyes. I couldn't say no to him. I was a sucker for blue eyes. "Sound great sir"

We had dinner in Central Park at the famous Tavern On The Green restaurant. One of the most beautiful restaurants in Manhattan where the walls are made out of glass. I had no idea how he was able to get past the waiting list, but for the rich and famous everything was possible.

James and I talked about his work and his years studing abroad. He was fluent in French and German too. He explained how his father was part of the FBI in his younger years. His grandfather founded Wade Corp. Back then the focus of the company was background checks, before the technology and the internet took over. When his grandfather passed he left his beloved brownstone to James, his legacy and his company to his son. James was the only child and grew up very lonely. He wanted to have a big family someday. I told him about my mother and that my little sister was going to college out of state. I didn't like talking about myself so I chose to listen intead. James also told me a little about his business abroad, a security company founded in France that used a software capable of tracing someone's background within seconds and was able to match millions of profiles of people.

Our young waitress spent the night trying to flirt with my boss. But somehow he remained unaffected by her behavior. This guy was probably so used to the entire female population throwing themselves at him at all times. The blonde was extremely nice to him while she ignored me almost the entire night. Once we were done with dinner, the young waitress came back with our check. She left her phone number on the receipt and I acted as if I didn't see a single thing. James then threw the receipt in the trash on the way out.

After dinner, we walked a few minutes through Central Park towards his car. He offered to take me home and I agreed because it was too late to be wandering around the dangerous streets of new york alone. I thanked him for dinner and the ride home. We said our goodbyes and then he walked me to the doorway of my building. He waited until I was inside, waved, and then left. My neighbors didn't waste any time to getting all in my business. It was like they were the audience and were the entertainment.

"Hey, Bonita (beautiful) That guy got a sweet ride. Maybe he can take us for a ride in Jaguar" Jose the building's super said," I rolled my eyes "In your dreams, mind your damn business Jose," I said.

Jose was the super of the building. He knew everything that happened here and the renters too. Nothing escaped him. He knew all the juicy gossip. Who did who or what, another reason why I couldn't wait to move out of this building.

The entire night I couldn't stop thinking about James and our dinner. I scolded myself for starting to like him. I was too old to have crushes as if it was High school. I put my phone away and went to sleep. In the morning I checked my phone and saw a text that read

I hope you had a good night Christina. Thank you for coming to dinner with me.

Oh, sweet mother of ...What do I text back?

Thanks again for dinner Mr. Wade and for driving me home.

Yes, That was good I sounded all business

" Good Morning Jones! Can't wait to see you this lovely morning"

Umm was he flirting with me? Naaa I thought

Was he?

Maybe?
