Mike saw Mona's body in the casket. His tears were in the back of his eyes, ready to spill out. He loved Mona. He loved her with all of his heart.
And now she was gone.
Mike looked at her pale features. Full lips, brown hair that was so shiny and bouncy before gone dull, and small nose. Her floral dress perfectly fit her, hugging every curve she had. Not standing to look one more second, Mike touched Mona's cold, dead hand and whispered, "I'll always love you Mona."
Mike went sit down next to his family in the front row. He bent his head down as the priest rambled on about what a good person Mona was. But Mike knew Mona was so much better than everything the priest was saying. Finally, he was called to the altar to say a few words. With shaking hands, he inched to the podium, looking at Mona's body as he went. The walls glistening, Mike began to speak,
"Mona was more than just a person you met and thought was beautiful and nice. Believe me, I thought that too. But even though she was, and still is, she was more than that. She was the person that could make you laugh when you were feel down. She was always there for you and always stood up for you." Mike felt himself choking on a cry. "She was my best friend. She was mine. I wanted to spend my life with her. B-but," Finally, he couldn't take it anymore. He busted out bawling.
"She was the most amazing person I've ever met. And I j-just wish she'd come back. Mona was perfect to me, even though to others she had her flaws." Feeling tears stinging his eyes, Mike just started bawling more.
"Mike, baby, come on." he heard his mom's (Ella's) voice tell him. Mike searched blindly for his mother's hand, and Ella lead him to sit with them. Aria gave Mike a huge hug as Mike cried into her shoulder.
"S-she's gone Aria." Aria felt her brother's pain, and it shot through her like a bullet how much Mike loved Mona.
"Shhhhh, shhhh" Byron called as Ella put Mike's head on her shoulder. Tears were still sitting in Mike's eye, looking at the memorial picture.
Mona was gone. And there was nothing Mike could do about it.
Once the service was over, the Montgomerys went home and Mike went to his room and took a nap.
That's when he had his dream.
Mona was standing there in a white dress and and white headband. Her smile remained on her no matter what. She was skipping through the field with as they picked flowers and kissed each other. Then, Mona reached out for Mike's hand. Non-hesitantly, he grabbed it, and walked off.
Mike jolted awake, still mesmerized about what happened. But he knew one thing for sure:
He was never letting Mona go.
