All the bar staff of Club Oberon wore fairy wings, the couches around the dance floor were plush and green and here and there were woodland motifs of fauns chasing fairies but other than that it was a typical establishment. Above the dancers green lights strobed, beneath them music thumped and around them a mass of bodies surged and writhed. Beth and Sienna danced until sweat beaded on their brows then they pushed through the people and made their way to the bar. Neither was actually old enough to drink but sure enough a likely lad named Simon noticed them and bought them both beers. The payment was the girl's attention until the glasses were drained.
Beth and Sienna had on a special nail polish that could test the alcohol for drugs and so they surreptitiously did so before swallowing anything. It paid to be careful, there were too many stories flying round Club Oberon of girls waking up not knowing what had happened to them. With the next hurdle they were not so ready to resist because Simon's friend Mark had a small baggie of white dust to share if the girls wanted too.
"What is it?" asked Sienna, ever the cautious one.
"It's called fairy dust."
"But is it like Ice or Coke or something like that?"
"No I promise it's totally organic, it will just make you feel good and not harm you at all."
Beth grinned, "I don't believe you but I'll give it a go."
Sienna crossed her arms but after Beth had had some she had some too.
The change was subtle but unmistakable after a few minutes the colours around them intensified and the music playing became more exquisite to their ears.
"I want to dance." cried Sienna and Beth followed her out onto the dance floor.
It seemed to both of them that the music was a living creature that moved around them that it consisted not just of sound but colour and texture. Beth leaned forward looking deep into her friend's eyes and then she kissed her. It was like an electric shock for both of them, each seemed to the other to be a sparkling being at that moment. Simon was forgotten as the girls danced until the early morning.
The next day was tough going, they were both hungover and tired but neither was more than that. They found that they had trouble remembering the sequence of the night clearly; all each could recall clearly was that fairy dust was amazing.
Soon enough they were back in Club Oberon each sly seeking a supply of the drug. They found Simon again but he was less generous this time. "Sorry this time it will cost you girls." They made sad faces but handed over their money easily enough. Again they found themselves drawn into a wild night of dancing. The people around them seemed to take on a magical quality becoming more fascinating than their everyday selves. The girls could not slow down or stop talking. Sienna's heart was beating so fast that she was sure that she was going to have a heart attack. Time seemed to fly by so that both were surprised when morning came and they were turfed out of the club.
Walking down the silent streets towards home Sienna turned to Beth,
"I can't do that again."
"Are you kidding it's amazing."
"No Beth, it's dangerous."
"Well I'll go on my own."
Sienna tried to persuade her otherwise but she couldn't find the words to explain her uneasiness, that somehow they were in over their heads.
The next days were hard, life seemed dull and ordinary, and while Beth had the promise of fairy dust to keep her going Sienna did not and the craving for it sang seductively in her blood. When the weekend rolled around Beth came pleading to her door.
