Chapter Two - Riley's Dad's POV

I woke up at 10 AM to my fiance downstairs playing his morning playlist loudly. Corpse Husband's music was blasting down the halls, shaking the entire house. That meant it was time to wake up.

Vampires usually aren't awake during these hours. As a kid, I was comfortably nocturnal, but moving in with a human meant changing that. I didn't mind too much, living with George meant I spent every day in the famous Washington Estate that his family owned. I was engaged to a celebrity after all, who was I to complain about something as trivial as a sleep schedule?

I rolled out of bed, making sure to make it before I went downstairs. I knew the butler would do it, it was his job, but I liked making things easier for him whenever I could. I left the room and walked downstairs to meet George in the kitchen.

"Good morning, George," I said, quickly putting on a smile.

He groaned in response, not looking up from his phone. He was wearing an oversized Slipknot shirt with a striped black and white long sleeve underneath. It was this look - along with his family's renowned fortune - that helped him gain such a following on social media.

It was always a bit odd being with a celebrity while no one knew of our relationship. George insisted upon keeping our relationship hidden, claiming it was to keep me safe. I think George and I fell out of love a while ago, but he wanted us to stay together to look good to his family and I wanted to stay together because I didn't want to leave the life I was living. We were good friends nonetheless, disagreements between us were few and far between. I was happy, mostly, and I was always a pretty reserved person. Despite that, I used to live a different life. I used to have a wife and a daughter and I was quite sociable.

As I prepared my glass of morning coffee, I stared at my reflection on the marble counter top. I still couldn't believe that the Riley's Dad from back then was the same person that was staring back at me. It all seemed like a lifetime ago, which made sense because, as a vampire, I age much slower than the usual human being. I knew my old family would die one day and I would have to be there for it, but I never thought that it would happen the way it did.

A notification on my phone brought me back to reality. It was a post from Ted Nivison - George's friend and business partner. I always thought that maybe they were more than that. The way George would talk about Ted when he wasn't around, the way Ted stared longingly at George. It didn't bother me really, George and I were in a loveless relationship so I didn't consider it cheating if he was with someone else. We've both been with other people in the past while together and, although we never addressed it, we both knew. It wasn't out of a place of spite or anger, it was just for ourselves.

I opened up my phone and looked at the post.

That's when I saw it - a comment left by Slenderman. We were childhood friends but stopped talking years ago. I knew he dated Ted at some point, but from the looks of it they weren't together anymore. I forgot how much I missed him. He was a good friend.

I requested to follow Slenderman, then put my phone down on the counter.

"I'm going out today," I told George. He finished slathering jelly on his piece of toast, took a bite out of it, and nodded in acknowledgement.

"Cool. Where to?" He asked through his chewing.

"The new cafe that opened next to the record store. I'm meeting Spongebob for lunch." George looked up from his phone and raised an eyebrow at me.

"Spongebob? I thought you hated that guy." While George wasn't right about me hating Spongebob, he wasn't too far off. I don't think I know Spongebob well enough to hate him. Sure, he's clingy and loud and going places with him is draining and one time hanging out with him did end with me getting burnt nearly to a crisp thanks to his "prank" of hiding my life-saving sun shielding pills and replacing them with thin mints and he has served meals with garlic every single time I came over but he's not all bad. He means well, I'm sure.

"Not... exactly," I said.

"Well, I hope you have fun," George said, picking up his bag. "I have to leave for a meeting, I'll see you tonight." I nodded in acknowledgement and he left the room.

I went back to making myself some eggs for breakfast and received a notification that Slenderman had accepted my follow request and followed me back. I smiled.
