Let go, said a voice, as if the winds were beckoning me to come fly with them.
I tightened my grip on the cold rails keeping me from drifting into the sky, its cold surface reminding me that I was still alive. The blue sky was tinged with afternoon reds and purples. How long have I been standing on this ledge? I looked at the world below. People lined the streets; cars sped past as always. They were always in a hurry. Everyone was. Even the person whom I thought would wait for me left me too early, earlier than I have hoped. Maybe I should have moved with the world's current, after all.
I closed my eyes and just listened-to the engines running, the trees tapping against the building windows, my heart beating against my chest-until I heard it.
A voice.
His voice.
Come on, Aileen! it said. Let's fly away together.
At that moment, I thought I saw a man materialize before me. His hair was a mess, his glasses just a tad crooked, and his smile made me feel warm inside. Just as quickly as the man appeared, it slowly dissipated into the clouds. I wanted to scream to him, make him stay. But a lump formed in my throat before I could say anything. It had always been like that.
The cold feeling in my hand soon faded away. And with one small step forward, I became one with the wind.
"I want to fly too."
