I stepped into Suleiman's room and took my place beside Hatice in line. Sahihuban was in the lead with her head held high as if she owned the world. Mihrimah was standing beside me being the eldest daughter. Suleiman was standing in front of his desk with his arms folded behind his back. The doors that led to a shaded hallway between him and the privy chamber protector, Bali Bey, opened. A huge gripe took over my face as Mehmed stepped in first followed by the rest of the boys.
"Qamar Sultan" Mehmed stepped over to me and took my hand, he placed a respectful kiss on my knuckles before moving back to start a new line for the males.
"Mother" Osman kissed my knuckles before pulling me in for a hug. I patted his back trying to comfort him. He stepped back and took his place beside Mehmed.
"Welcome back mother" Abdullah was next. He kissed my knuckles and then my forehead. I smiled as I watched him move to stand beside Osman.
"Welcome back, Qamar Sultan" Selim greeted kissing my knuckles with a blush on his cheeks that matched his hair meaning he had an argument with Beyazid not long ago. He moved to stand beside Abdullah in line.
"You're finally back, mother" Murad skipped kissing my knuckles and hugged me around the waist tightly. I leaned down and kissed the crown of his head.
"My darling" I patted his back. He looked up at me with a grin before letting me go and moving to stand beside Selim.
"Qamar Sultan" Beyazid greeted kissing my knuckles. I patted his cheeks before he moved to stand beside Murad.
"Mommy!" Korkut hugged my legs as hard as he could. I leaned down and picked him up with whatever strength I had in me. I kissed his full cheeks before placing him back down. He skipped over to stand beside Beyazid.
"Mommy" Cihangir smiled. Cihangir didn't remember his mother which I found heartbreaking but he has me as a replacement. I kneeled down in front of him and kissed his cheek. He smiled again and moved to stand beside Korkut. I smiled noticing Nuriye eyeing her father from the end of the female line.
"Why did you ask for us here, brother?" Hatice was the first to break the silence that fell after the reunion between me and my children.
"I have several announcements to make" Suleiman answered Hatice. She smiled and nodded. She took a deep breath to compose herself in a way.
"First, Sahihuban will be moving to Amasya with her husband and daughter" Suleiman explained. I smiled knowing this was a banishment but he didn't call it that respecting her status as a sultana.
"What? Why?" Hatice asked. This made me realize that Suleiman didn't tell anyone the truth, even Hatice.
"I got complains about Lütfi Pasha" Suleiman answered. It was not totally a lie but at the same time not the full truth.
"Second, Ibrahim Pasha will be banished to Parga after his divorce from Hatice Sultan and the first Vizier spot will go to Ayas Pasha" Suleiman continued. I turned to look at Hatice knowing this was her decision but it will still hurt. She gave me a pained smile before turning back to Suleiman.
"My last decision is that I will be going on a campaign this spring again and Mehmed, Osman, and Abdullah will join me" Suleiman finished turning to look at his sons. I smiled proudly at the three boys.
"May it be victorious your majesty" I said aloud. Sahihuban's face was almost the same color as her red dress.
"Now everyone go back to what you were doing, Qamar needs rest" Suleiman ordered. We all bowed to him before leaving his room one after the other.
"You witch! What lies did you tell him?" Sahihuban Sultan yelled the second we were out of the room. I turned to look at her being held back by Hatice.
"I do not lie" I hissed angrily glaring at her. Ayse and Mihrimah were on either side of me helping me walk as I grew weaker with the lack of rest.
"You lied, otherwise he wouldn't banish me" she hissed trying to break free from Hatice's grip.
"Sultanim!" Someone raised their voice. We all turned to the source to find Osman. He walked over and stood in front of Sahihuban Sultan blocking my view of her and her of me.
"Do not forget who is standing in front of you! She is Qamar Sultan, not some slave" he hissed angrily at her. My chest swelled with how proud of him I felt. All the pain during the pregnancy and labor was worth going through, all the toddler tantrums and crying at night from jealousy over his siblings were worth going through.
"Osman?" She gasped shocked. He turned his back to her and walked over to me. Mihrimah stepped back letting him take her place.
"Come on mother, you and my sibling need rest" he helped me walk down the golden road along with Ayse.
The second we stepped into the harem golden coins started raining down from the balcony leading to my room. I looked up to find Rosie along with other maids holding pots with gold and throwing them down to the harem. The harem girls were eating sweets and drinking sherbets.
"May the new Sehzade or Sultana have a long life" Gülfem stepped over to me. I raised an eyebrow at the stranger beside her. A woman old enough to be Suleiman's mother.
"Thank you, Gülfem" I gave her a grateful smile. I turned to look at the older woman. She stepped closer to me and bowed slightly.
"Welcome back Sultanim. I am Afife Hatun, I will be in charge of the harem after Daye Hatun according to Sultan Suleiman's orders" She introduced. It finally clicked on who she was.
"Yahya Effendi's mother?" I asked. Gülfem nodded her head.
"Welcome to harem Afife Hatun. Your son saved my life and it is an honor meeting the woman who raised such an honorable man" I greeted. She looked up at me almost shocked that I was not snobby or looking at her from above my nose.
"Come on mother" Osman urged. I nodded and let him guide me up the stairs to my room so I can rest.
