The Persians are coming...
Gleaming against the white-black, against the darkening sky and barren grounds, flashes of silver and metal broke the layer of hazy nothingness.
The blazing flame of torches illuminated the horizon and the the distant thunder-like drumming of war echoed far and wide. The big horn blew from the feeble watchtowers and pools of light bloomed from the Greek's encampments.
The Persian troops were armed with their maces, spears and bows. Their dark greyish steel and iron armor blended in with the haze and darkness, making them hard to tell apart from withered plants and trees.
"How many of them are there?" General Miltiades demanded as he peered over the stronghold's walls.
"Only 2,000 soldiers, general. However, this is only the Achmaemenid Empire's declarations of war. We should be expecting stronger and larger forces soon, our encampment would not hold."
"Send a messenger back to Athens immediatley. We need backup, more than the Athenian army can provide." General Miltiades said firmly and the lutenent's face ashened.
"Should we request them to reach out to other city-states?"
General Miltiades nodded grimly.
The messenger ran two days and one night to deliver the message as the Athenian troop held off any further attacks. Athens then dispatched messengers to Sparta and other allied states.
War is coming...
