RAIN
AUGUST 25 2022

"What are you even talking about dingus?"

"Uhh....like the one with the teddy bears," says Steve shaking his head like Robin has been living under a rock her entire life. "Revenge....something, I can't remember the name. Yeah, I like that one."

"Return of the Jedi is the name," Robin responds while stacking some VHS tapes back onto the shelf while also rolling her eyes.

The two continue their work, Robin stacking VHS tapes in the back of the store and Steve wiping down the front desk.

A roll of thunder struck across the Hawkins sky as a torrential downfall of rain scattered across the landscape outside the Family Video.

"Not a single car in the parking lot...not a single person to deal with, my kind of day."

Robin smiles from the back with a nod of agreement. "Yup, just got to deal with you but somehow I manage."

Steve sets down his rag taking a seat in his chair upfront by the counter.

"Y'know what...I'm not even upset you said that. We've only got thirty mintues left of our shift and we haven't encountered a single customer so I'll just let it slide."

Laying back in his chair, Steve pops open a magazine reading an article from LIFE  about "Teenage America."

"Hey, while you're back there, you mind grabbing me a coke?"

As Steve said that, Robin had already finished putting the VHS tapes away and was already by the secret cooler reserved only for employees.

"Yeah, I got you," yells Robin back while opening the cooler. Grabbing two cans, Robin bumps the cooler closed with her hips as she makes her way back to the front of the store.

"Ahh, thank you," says Steve taking the Coke from Robin's hand snuggling back into his seat like he was on vacation at a sunny white sand beach.

Instead the pouring rain continued to hammer the small video store as now it seemed to only be picking up. Walking around the counter, Robin takes her seat by the computer they kept by the side counter.

POP!!

The can lid made a noise as Robin's fingers tightly gripped the cold can. Tired from restocking, she takes a gulp feeling the cold sweet taste from the soda flow down from her lips to her throat giving her a cooling sensation across her entire body.

"I can't believe this new Coke stuff is growing on me," Robin thinks to herself.

Looking back at Steve, she notices his chair leaned back, magazine in one hand, coke in the other, she decides to give it a try to.

Leaning her chair back against the counter, she decides to grab a VHS of one of her favorite movies to pop into the TV sitting above the two employees so she could watch her favorite scenes.

Popping the VHS in, The Apartment, begins to play as Steve turns his head to view the TV.

"Oh not this again, really?" says Steve annoyed setting his Coke down on the counter. "I don't get why you like this movie so much."

"Hey, you like Star Wars with little fake teddy bears," argues Robin smiling as the movie begins to play. "I like romantic comedies with Shirley MacLaine."

"Yeah....I don't get that either," responds Steve confusion and a smile across his face as he focuses back on his magazine.

Robin waves her hand at him saying, "Just read your magazine and let me be happy."

"To each their own I guess," Steve says shrugging his shoulders and taking another sip of his coke.

Another strike of lighting erupts across the evening sky with a loud rolling thunder following suite. Robin grabs the remote turning up the TV a little more to drown out the pouring rain from outside.

author's note

Hey, so yeah, starting another Ronance short story. I like this one right now and I'm thinking this will probably be around three or four chapters.

Ronance doesn't occur just yet, probably next chapter or the one after that.

And once again, thanks for reading, comment if you'd like and just enjoy.
