BY OURSELVES
AUGUST 25 2022"Here it is," says Robin. "This is one of my personal favorites, although not sure if the boys will like it."
I passed the VHS tape over to Nancy who read alound, "The Hidden Fortress a film by Akira Kurosawa."
"It's good...I promise," says Robin slightly starting to feel uncomfortable from the situation she put herself in.
"Why did I give her The Hidden Fortress, that's too....different. It's also in Japanese....they aren't even going to understand it.......not like I speak Japanese though," Robin wonders to herself slowly zoning out. Not realizing she had zoned out, Nancy calls to her.
"Robin?" says Nancy waving her hand in front of the girl. "Earth to Robin??"
Robin snaps out of it shaking her head before quickly saying, "Yeah, uhh sorry. I've got better ones to suggest too, I know that one's a little much, it's not in English, it's just a little much maybe for y'know American viewers. It's that y'know the directors really cool and...did you know George Lucas the guys who made Star Wars based a New Hope off this movie so actually maybe the boys will like this movie, y'know so maybe."
Nancy places her finger up to Robin's lips causing Robin's voice to hitch and a red tint to appear on her face.
"Why is she doing that," thinks Robin to herself before hearing the girl speak.
"You're rambling," says Nancy still not pulling her finger away from Robin's lips. She takes a step forward getting closer to Robin before finally pulling her finger away. Looking behind her towards Steve, Nancy situates herself so she can't be seen by Steve.
"Sorry, I do that sometimes," Robin says looking down awkwardly unsure of what to say.
"It's okay," says Nancy, "I think it's kind of cute when you ramble on. I like when you ramble on."
"Um...thank you," says Robin softly her voice almost out of breath. "Um..so there's more...um movies this way if you..uh follow me."
Robin starts to back away trying to hide the immense blush on her face although knowing internally that Nancy noticed. Before she could get away Nancy quickly grabbed her hand pulling her back towards her.
Heart pounding, electrcitiy running through her at Nancy's touch, Robin can barely hold herself together in Nancy's presence.
Nancy holds up "The Hidden Fortress" to show Robin. "I think it'll do for tonight with the boys."
"Ok," says Robin her breathing becoming heavy as every word Nancy spoke she inched closer and closer towards Robin. Their faces now only a few inches apart.
"Another night," Nancy starts tilting her head sideways causing Robin's knees to almost (buckle)y, "I'd like for you to show me some other movies to rent and we could go back to my place and watch them..... something like Fast Times at Ridgemont High."
"C'mon Robin, don't be such a loser, be.....seductive or something," thinks Robin to herself. "What does Steve do."
"We could watch," says Robin softly, "Or we could act out some scenes."
This time it was Nancy's turn to blush. Robin suddenly takes her moment of catching the brown haired girl off guard and slips her hand around Nancy's waist underneath her raincoat that was slightly open.
Nancy, face as beet red as a summer's tomato, smiled softly melting into Robin's arms until a certain someone from the front of the room calls to the pair.
"Hey, you guys almost done choosing a movie, we close in 2 minutes and I wanna get home."
"Uhh, yeah, we'll be right up," says Nancy back to the boy upfront. "Always gotta ruin our fun."
"For now," says Robin softly causing Nancy to smile and blush once more. "I'll make sure to reserve Fast Times at Ridgemont High."
"I'd like that."
Nancy smiles again as Robin finally unslips her hand from Nancy's waist as the the two make their way back up to the front counter.
Paying for The Hidden Fortress, Nancy places the VHS into one of her rainjacket pockets closing the baby blue colored jacket to prepare for the harsh rain outside.
Walking out of the store, she quickly turns back to wave to the Family Video pair while nonchalantly winking at Robin causing another wave of butterflies to erupt in her stomach while a large smile is evidently glowing on her face.
Steve notices and asks, "What was that about?"
"Nothing, Dingus...now let's get out of here."
