Chapter Three
Exams Panic Hangover Dread
Ariel P. O. V
I bolted out of the house like a madwoman, my legs so light it felt as if I were walking on air. Panic surged through me as I tried to figure out where to go and how to hail a cab. The estate where Alexander lived was vast and intimidating.
Just by luck, a cab pulled up in front of me. I hopped in and arrived at the apartment by 2 a.m., only to find Ella nowhere in sight. I didn't want to stress myself by overthinking, so I headed straight to the bedroom and fell asleep almost immediately.
The next morning, a loud knock on the door jolted me awake. "Who is it? And please don't tell me it's Ella," I muttered to myself. "It's me, Ari. I forgot my keys and now I'm locked out. Please open the door," she called out.
"Why are you yelling, Ella? I'm coming, just stop yelling. My head is killing me," I whisper-yelled back.
"I'm not even yelling, you idiot. That's a hangover you're feeling," she retorted.
"But I didn't even drink that much last night. Some guy offered me a drink, but I turned him down," I said.
Ella launched into a detailed recount of the party, sharing how much fun she had and that she even found a boyfriend.
"Are you even listening to me?" she suddenly asked.
"Mmmmh..." I responded absent-mindedly. I was trying not to think about the party because I had so much to study for the upcoming exams.
"Do you even realize the exams are on Monday? I don't have any time to study. I wasted all that time at the party, and now I'm stuck with a killer hangover. And to think I barely drank anything," I rambled, only to notice Ella staring at me, her mouth agape.
"What did you say?" she asked, shocked.
"I've said a lot. Which part are you referring to?" I replied nervously.
"The part about the exams," she clarified.
"Oh, right. I meant to tell you when I got home last night, but you weren't here, so I'm telling you now. I heard at the party that exams are on Monday, so I rushed home," I explained.
"We are so dead. Where do we even start? There's no time, and I must pass these exams or else..." Ella trailed off, panic setting in.
"Stop talking about death. You know how superstitious I am. Don't worry, I have a plan. We'll study hard and do our best," I reassured her, trying to keep her calm.
Our weekend was a blur of intense studying, and now we found ourselves in the exam room, nerves on edge.
"Okay, listen up. You have two hours to finish. Start now," the supervisor announced.
The room fell silent, and I took a deep breath, focusing on the exam paper in front of me. Determined, I knew we could pull through.
