They had taken him just two days after his second birthday, posing as friends of his mother. They'd taken him away and preformed checkups, reviewing his physical and mental state.
Fine, if not a little nearsighted. It wouldn't matter anyway, in years to come. Or so they thought.
Joe Hills behaved and showed the exact things they expected. His eyesight worsened and weakened, and his skin was so pale after three weeks that they decided to give him the Vitamin D dosage early to prevent bone fractures. His mobility had also been slightly delayed, but a week of extra experiments had fixed that quickly.
What had been unexpected were his eyes. A month into the experiment, a researcher reported that the young Joe's eyes seemed to be... well, glowing, for lack of better terminology.
A couple of tests later revealed that his eyes were indeed glowing, for absolutely no reason. They couldn't find any scientific explanation that would explain why his eyes were suddenly giving off a dim, white light.
As the years past on, they were surprised to find that Joe seemed to be getting his vision back, which was shown through numerous tests and observations. The boy from Nashville, Tennessee, had quite literally developed night vision.
As if that wasn't odd enough, Joe's bright blue eyes started to fade in colours. By the time he was 9, they were completely white.
