Nikole’s POV:

I woke up to the sound of my alarm ringing and the fire alarm going off. WAIT?! THE FIRE ALARM?! I jumped out of bed and ran downstairs to the kitchen to see what was going on, only to be met with my older brother, Luke, trying to put out a small fire on the stove. Which means Luke was trying to cook… again, let’s just say Luke and cooking don’t mix at all. I walked up to him and tapped on his shoulder to get his attention, but when I did he jumped and somehow managed to drop the skillet he was holding.

N- “What do you think you’re doing!?”

L- “Uhhh trying to be a good big brother and make sure you have breakfast for your first day in high school”

N- “LUKE! For the love of all things music, YOU CAN’T COOK!!”

L- “I know I was just trying to help out Mom so that way it was one less thing she had to worry about this morning”

Of course, my big brother was just trying to help but he isn’t supposed to be in the kitchen at all. It was funny because normally he’d be in a rush to meet the band for an early morning practice or something. Once we got everything cleaned up and the fire alarms turned off I went back up to my room to get dressed for school. It was my first day of high school, and I need a new start this year after all the bullying from the last 9 years. With that in mind, I went digging through my closet to find the perfect outfit. I was looking for something cute but also comfortable which lead me to this:

It wasn’t much but it would work because it would keep me connected to the band

It wasn’t much but it would work because it would keep me connected to the band. Oh did I forget to mention that my brother has his own band, and I’m the rhythm guitarist and a songwriter. Once I was finished getting dressed I grab my phone off the charger, my song journal, and my backpack. I put my journal in my bag and rushed back downstairs to Luke, but when I got there my mom had taken Luke’s place in the kitchen.

N- “good morning Mom, how’d you sleep?”

E- ¨I slept pretty well, how about you sweetheart?¨

N- ¨It was ok… I guess¨

E- ¨Are you sure? It’s ok to not be ok hun¨

N- "Well in all honesty, no I’m not ok… I’m scared, what if I don’t fit in here?”

E- “Oh sweetheart it’ll be alright, I’m sure you’ll fit in here and you’ll have your big brother there to protect you too”

I blushed at her words of encouragement

N- “Thanks Mom, and Luke? I’m counting on you to be there for me”

L- “You know I’ll always be there for you song-bird”

Just then the front door swung open with a loud bang.

R- “Honey I’m homeeee!”

A- “Reggie you can’t just barge in there like that it’s rude”

N- “Hey guys how’s it going?”

L- “Took you two long enough, if we don’t leave now we’ll be late for our first day of school”

A- “Then let’s get going!”

And with that, we grabbed our bags and headed to school. It was going to be a great start to the new year, and I couldn’t be any happier than I was right now….
Time skip to first period

After getting dropped off at my first-period class, and taking a seat in the back corner of the classroom. It wasn’t long before more students started to make their way into class, but the one person I hoped I wouldn’t run into came into the room and walked right up to me…

B¹- “Hey freak! Did you forget your place!? MOVE NOW!!”

That was it the fresh start to a new school was gone, and there was nothing I could do about it…
