Chapter 6

Footsteps approach Naru's tent and jostle her shoulder, making her grunt and grimace before opening her eyes and watching her mother hike away with a sack over her shoulder.

Naru looks over, and her eyes rest on Taabe's sleeping form lying nearby her.

Women set off towards the forest, chattering together, departing to get to work.

Naru slings a sack over her shoulder, watching the women.

A baby cries when a mother walks by carrying a basket with the baby slung over her back.

Y/N walks up behind her, and Naru turns her gaze at her. Y/N only nodded her head with a silent greeting.

Y/N watches the tribeswomen and huffs.

Naru and Y/N nod at each other, removing the sacks from over their shoulders and tossing them by the tent.

Y/N packs a bag, gathering supplies, and holds a small cup with paint on it. She dabs her finger and smears the paint over her face.

"If they don't see, then show them." Y/N nods to Naru and Sarii, finishing painting her face.

"Kima." Naru advanced to Sarii.

She grabbed her bow and tossed one to Y/N, and she caught it, slinging it over her shoulder.

They head in the opposite direction, passing by the women as they watch them.

Naru lowers her eyes while Y/N keeps her gaze upon her with a stern look.

Keep moving forward.

They look guilty but determined as they set off beyond the path, away from home.

Soon after they walk along a creek, Sarii following close beside them as they continue walking along across a field with mountains in the distance.

The morning sky awakes as they keep hiking towards the forest. They walked down by a ridge and came by an embankment.

Y/N notices something on a tree stump and crouches down, gazing at it.

Green luminescent liquid.

Y/N trails her eyes down to the ground, noticing the same footprint she spotted last night.

"kabuni." Y/N called, getting Naru's attention, and gestured to the footprint.

"The same footprint." Y/N looks at her friend.

"Is that the thing's blood?" She nodded her head toward the tree stump. Y/N nodded.

Sarii hands Y/N a long stick, and she grabs it, silently thanking Sarii as he scampers off.

Y/N uses the stick to measure the footprint; it is about a foot wide, and she breaks the stick to match the width of the print.

She brings it up closer and studies it curiously.

"Whatever this is, it's massive." She looks over to Naru and drops the sticks before standing back up to her feet.

"Kima." They walk off.

In a clearing a rabbit nibbles on grass; a wolf stands a few feet behind the fluffy cottontail.

The wolf growls and licks its lips.

A few feet away, the predator scans them with his bio-helmet, thermal imaging scans off the animals.

The wolf creeps closer towards the rabbit before it launches itself, and the rabbit hops off as the wolf pursues after it.

The predator watches the thermal imaging of the wolf through his bio-mask chasing the rabbit.

The wolf catches up to the rabbit and snatches it with its jaw before being swatted to the side.

The wolf drops the rabbit and stands back up before growling and pouncing at the predator, taking a bite to his leg, and the predator hurls it backwards.

The translucent form of the predator plods towards the wolf. The wolf snarls and arches its back at the predator.

The wolf bares its fangs, full of the predator's green luminescent blood.

The predator growls and crouches down, being a few feet in front of the wolf; two wristblades extend from his arm.

The wolf barks and charges and jumps at the predator, but he strikes the wolf with the wristblades.

The wolf stiffens with blood pooling and splattering on the ground and flops on its side.

The predator kneels down at the lifeless body and slices the wolf's back and across its neck, peeling off the wolf's spine and ripping off its head as it's attached to the spine.

The predator raises the spine and bellows.
