Safe Haven

005's POV

Light peaks through the boards of the deck as the sun rises over the tree line. After I wake up, I stretch and crawl out from under the deck. It's quiet, very quiet. I go back into the diner and look for more food, but with no luck. I know it's not smart to go out in the open, but I'm starving still. I need to find something.

I wander the woods on my own. There's nothing. It feels like I've been out her for hours and hours on end, but in reality it's only been like 20 minutes.

As I walk, find a small box on the ground. Wood. I fall to the ground and look at it. The top lifts. I open it and a small frown falls on my face. Still nothing. I sigh and continue walking.

Not long after I found the box, I run into a cabin. Like the diner, it's here on its own. I walk up, ready to look for anything to help.

All of the sudden, I trip and there's a loud bang. I get up scared. I look back at my foot on the ground and I see a wire. Then there's a door that opens to the cabin.

"HEY!"

A man shouts at me and starts to walk over. He's tall, tan clothes, a hat, and a mustache.

I frantically get up and start to run. I hear his shouts behind me.

"WHO ARE YOU? HEY, GET BACK HERE KID!"

Next thing I get is a face full of dirt. Awesome. I fell to the ground after tripping on a tree root and the man grabs me. I can't help but start shaking.

"Who are you kid and what are you doing out here?" The man yells at me.

I stay silent. Even if I could speak, I don't know what I would say.

I see the man look at me up and down.

"Okay okay. I'm sorry. That was probably a little harsh. My name is Jim Hopper. I am the police chief here in Hawkins. Do you have a name?"

I just look at him without a word.

He sighs. "Why are you wearing this? Why a hospital gown?"

I can't. I need to go.

I bolt to my right as fast as I can. I hear the man yell for me again. He's a cop, he'll get me sent back to the lab. I can't go back. They'll kill me.

I shoot a quick glance behind me and he's not following me. I come across a road and hear the brushing sound of leaves. Soon I hear a loud revving sound.

I look to my side and there's a blue car coming at me. I start running, but it doesn't do any good. It is right behind me so I keep running and brace for an impact.

At the last second the car swerved and flew by me. I slowed to a jog and looked at the car. I see a girl stick her head out of the window and look at me with a worried look. She has beautiful red hair and bright blue eyes. I feel a flutter in my stomach.

Now the car is gone and I figured I should probably find somewhere to go. It's a long road, so this will be a long walk...

*time skip*

After what feels like forever, I finally found some homes and buildings.

I see a store with some clothes and make my way inside. A woman greets me with a warm smile. I give a shy smile back and go to the clothes. What I didn't know was that she was giving me a confused look based on my current outfit. I got to the clothes and picked out a single pair of jeans, a plain t-shirt, some socks, and tennis shoes. I balled the clothes up in my arms and made my way to the door.

"Honey, can you come back?"

I stopped and turned around. What did she need from me? I walked up to her with my head down and stopped at the counter, avoiding her eyes.
