"Y/N!! BASIL!!"
"hey!! what's up, KEL?" i say, walking into the room, BASIL by my side.
"the usual... sitting... alone... all sad... but not for long!! soon enough HERO will be here... and i'll finally have someone!!"
"hey! you have us! but i am excited for HERO to come back. i feel like i haven't seen him in foreverrr."
"it's been like six months," BASIL responds.
"that's a long time!!" we laugh.
"when will AUBREY be here??" i ask.
"honestly... i have no idea. she's always late, i just hope she'll be here before HERO gets here. she literally LIVES here and somehow you're here before her." KEL sighs.
"that's AUBREY for you... come on, let's go set up."
we begin setting things up for HERO's welcome back party. it was HERO's first day back from college since last christmas, and he was finally gonna be back permanently. earlier this morning, KEL went out and got a hero sandwich, along with some snacks and decorations. eventually, just about ten minutes before HERO was supposed to arrive, AUBREY showed up.
"AUBREY!! hey, how are you??" i say, pulling her into a hug.
"pretty good!!"
"AUBREY!!" KEL yells. "you're late!!"
"FASHIONABLY late," she responds. "better than not coming at all!"
"yeah, yeah... whatever. just come help set up, HERO's gonna be here really soon!!"
a few minutes pass, and we hear a car pull up. we all stand by the door and await for HERO to enter. then, the door opens.
"SURPRISE!!" we all yell, as HERO walks through the door, shocked.
"aww, you guys!! thank you so much!! i'm so happy to see all of you!!" he says. KEL runs up to hug him. "i missed you all so much."
"we missed you too, bro!! come on, we got a whole day planned!!"
"oh, really??"
"...well... most of it just consists of eating snacks and watching tv... and talking."
HERO laughs. "of course it does."
"sometimes it feels like all KEL knows how to do is eat snacks, watch tv, and... play sports," BASIL adds.
"hey!! there is much more to me than that!! i am a very complex person. you just wouldn't understand!!"
BASIL gasps. "are you calling me dull!?"
"yes."
"STOPP," AUBREY yells, hitting him in the head. "be nice, KEL!!"
KEL sighs, "YOU'RE telling ME to be nice?? i am not that mean... why must you all be like this..."
"if you weren't mean, i wouldn't have to put you in your place all the time!"
"WOWWWW..." KEL responds. "words hurt, AUBREY... words hurt."
"stop it, you two!! isn't this supposed to be a nice heartfelt reunion just for me!?"
"fine, fine... anything for you, HERO."
we all sit and eat snacks and talk. we haven't seen HERO in so long, there's a lot to talk about. eventually, the day ends and night comes.
"i can't believe you finally graduated college, HERO. we're so proud of you!! right, guys?" BASIL says.
"of course!! MARI would be proud, too." i respond.
"she is proud..." KEL adds. "she's watching over us all, and she's so proud of you, HERO."
