"Screw you, loser!" Clary laughed and started running away towards a bench near the lake.

Central Park was nearly empty but, despite of the sun, the weather was cool. He almost regretted not grabbing a jacket before leaving the Institute. Autumn had came and it's cold breeze embraced his exposed arms.

He slowly walked towards Clary, who was now laying in the bench and looking at the Lake. She stood up and sat straight, giving him space to sit next to her. They stood there for a while, in silence. The warm sunset light made Clary's hair the color of fire, and her eyes were shining the lightest brown.

"I wish there were ducks in this Lake" she said with a grin "so I could throw you in it to have some fun"

He laughed "I would drag you with me and make you drown"

"I'd love to see you try" she said, fake punching his arm

He yawned and tried to find himself a comfortable position in the wooden bench. They watched the sun set in silence.

'This feels good', he thought. Indeed, the whole atmosphere somehow felt like a dream. The empty Park, the cool weather, the sunlight in Clary's hair. Clary. He really enjoyed spending his time with her.

Jace leaned back and thought about his relationship history. He had been with many girls, but they would never last more than two weeks with him. They would always get boring, and the way they would try to put him in chains and do everything to make him stay would get him utterly annoyed. They would always throw themselves at his feet, follow him like little dogs, but he didn't want a pet. He wanted someone who would look him in the eyes and talk to him fearlessly, someone confident enough to tease him and make him want to stay. Someone.... -

"Helloooo??? Is there anything working under this ridiculously blonde hair?" Clary was zapping her fingers in front of his face "I had to call you like 5 times, wake up, loser".
She had a smiley look in her face.

"I was making an evil plan" he replied, quickly standing up and grabbing her by the waist. He threatened to throw her at the lake and for a moment she was too surprised to react, giving him time to appreciate her face closely. 'She's gorgeous', his heart beat increased a bit

Her surprised expression turned into an malicious grin and she managed to make him fall in the grass, they laughed and pretended to fight, rolling over the brown leaves that had fallen.

They sat up, breathless, but still giggling. Her hair was all messy and full of leaves and her jeans were a bit dirty from the grass, but she looked stunning. Looking at her, he felt like there were butterflies in his stomach. His heart was beating really fast now

'... someone like Clary'.

She caught his eyes staring at her. He blushed, hating himself for being so overwhelmed by his own emotions. 'Focus'. She smiled and stood up, offering her arm to help him up. He held her hand and didn't feel like letting it go, so he kept it that way she didn't seem to mind.

The cool breeze had turned into freezing wind after the sunset. He pulled her closer to keep them both warm.

They arrived at the institute and Jace lied down in his bed, smiling. He could still feel the floral smell of Clary's perfume in his t-shirt and the lovely sound of her laughter haunted him in his dreams.
