It's dark, lonely but at the same time theres a comfort in knowing you're with me, i mean why wouldn't there be given the situation.Jen is a sixteen year old girl, she's bright, funny and a typically pretty kind of girl, but thats just what you would get by looking at her she is proof to the saying "don't judge a book by it's cover".It's the year 2023 and a monday afternoon when televisions all across London were being informed of the virus, the virus, that is that was "let out" by a very unlucky scientist at the city's leading university. This scientist decided it was a good idea to create a zombie like virus using a rat to perfect the virus, why anyone would want that perfected no one will ever know. The virus spread very much like the plague when the rat escaped it bit other rats spreading the virus and the fleas off those rats jumped off infecting other animals and the virus eventually reached house hold pets, cats an dogs being the majority able to transmit the virus to humans. And thats exactly what happened. Before anyone even knew a diseased rat was roaming about London the city was rapidly becoming the start of a currently unknown epidemic.Zombie apocalypse is the urban term known to anyone who doesn't live under a rock, this is especially true for 17 year old James, who like Jen is not one who should be judged on his appearance because James is defiantly not the bad boy jock he resembles. Infract he is a self proclaimed geek and goth as some might say.James and Jen met when the epidemic was first realised, they were both neighbours but never would have known if it weren't for the rat escaping, a bit of a blessing really. Both James and Jens families were killed by zombies pretty quickly which didn't really phase them as they were never really close. They both had extensive knowledge on the world of zombie apocalypse survival, whilst most of the world were socialising and being "normal" James and Jen stayed at home watching zombie movie after zombie movie, the fact that between them they had both seen zombieland about 100 times helped, A LOT.They had managed to get out of there home town and were making there way to the centre of London and everything had ben going really well, right up until they got to the freeway. As they stood at the end of the long road they had a view of a massive wall of cars, as they got closer and closer to the wall of abandoned vehicles a sense of unknown fear set in James and Jen move closer and closer to each other. When they finally reach the cars everything is silent they stand there for a few minutes to look for movement. After a while they feel its save to venture over the mass grave of cars, James goes first holding Jen's hand as he helps her on to the pile of cars. They get to the top and look out of the most daunting sight either of them will ever witness, a sea of zombies painted the remainder of the freeway they could see the horizon in the distance it was like seeing a rainbow through a storm and knowing there was a form of hope.James and Jen held each other in there arms tightly as they tried to ignore the epic sense of impending doom, James had a few guns he swiped from his fathers collection at the start of all this, it wasn't much but it was all they had.Luckily for Jen James was good with plans and this one was no exception.James had found a pack of flairs in an old pickup truck, he decided to shoot a flair as far he could away from the freeway, him and Jen then would make a run for it with guns in hand."on the count of 3" James told Jen together they both counted to 3 "1"…"2"…"3".James shot the flair as far as it would go, the zombies noticed instantly they both scaled down the pile of cars as quickly and quietly as they could, as soon as there feet hit the ground they ran for it.Running as fast as they could they kept a watchful eye out, James kept his sites on the distracted zombies whilst Jen looked out for any strays. As they could see the end of the road ahead the zombies started slowly back from the flair James and Jen knew that at this point they would make it, hope entered there mind as they reached the roads end.Jen had thoughts of the future for the first time in her life. She began realising her feelings for James she never knew how lucky she was to have found him, i guess nobody really knows what they have until its almost gone.As Jen would soon come to find James was having the same thoughts, he started thinking about a life with Jen beyond the apocalypse, a smile appeared at the thought of a future with the one he had come to love.As they traveled far far beyond the road they had fought past, they grew tired they had been walking for days, along a narrow road through the shade of trees peered a small well kept cottage.Carefully they both moved towards the house, they make sure to check the perimeter as quickly and as quietly as possible. They decide its safe to venture in, as they enter through the door as softly as ghosts might, sanctuary was the word that entered there minds, it was perfect, everything every tiny detail. It had everything they needed to sustain life, and not even just enough to get by they had enough to sustain a happy relaxed life. With foods in amount to last them, and maybe any children if it was ever to happen a lifetime. It all felt to good to be true, to perfect, to right. In this moment of realisation, and peace James turns to face Jen as they look into each others eyes, it was almost telepathic, nothing was said, but at the same time there feelings toward each other were expressed to one another.Feelings of love, peace and tranquility filled the room as they both sat down and began to settle in to there not to distant future together. At the start of all this no one would have imagined an escaped infected lab rat would have been called a blessing, i guess some things are just funny like that sometimes you just have to have hope.
