Dan does just as the devil bids him, because that's simply the sort of person he is. If he's never done so for a worse person than Lucifer, he's certainly done worse things simply because he was asked.
It's all very easy to find himself standing in the hospital room looking down at Chloe lying there, ready to pull the plug when Lucifer gets here.
He doesn't need Penelope's permission to finish killing her daughter. Chloe went through the trouble of a living will precisely to ensure her mother would have no say in this sort of thing. And for all it may destroy Trixie, she's given no voice in this either. Legally, it's entirely Dan's choice.
Not that legal particularly matters... He should be grateful Lucifer didn't tell him to smother her with his own hands. He'd have done it. He'd have done anything.
And if it turns out it's just one last cruel trick, he'll go find an empty room, pop his gun in his mouth, and blow his brains out the back of his skull. The hospital staff's practiced scrubbing their floors clean of garbage, got grief councilors right there for Trixie. It's the best place to do it, really. Least inconvenience for everyone.
When the devil shows up, he's, of all things, fidgety, shoulders twitching up and down like he's trying to dislodge a pesky fly. He doesn't acknowledge this. He's bright-eyed, almost manic as he regards Dan.
"And I get her back?" Dan asks yet again, knowing it's pointless to ask for the devil to reassure him it's telling the truth.
"Yes," the devil says. "All healed. All fixed. She'll get exactly what she deserves and you'll get exactly who you asked for."
The machines turn off. Chloe convulses in a way that reminds Dan of bodies on pavement, goes still. And across from her, the devil puts his hands together like he's praying.
Chloe opens her eyes and shoots upright with a scream.
Dan wraps his arms around her and she clutches him like someone drowning. He can feel her shuddering gasps and the wetness of tears where she's buried her face against his neck. "You're back," he says. "Chloe, you're back, you're back."
"As promised," says the devil. "Though you may find her a bit...discombobulated." He gives a strange, empty laugh. "After all, she's been through Hell."
