Back into Hiding

"What is she?" Voldemort hissed, his face hidden in shadow.

Snape stood before a roaring fire, his face void of expression. He did not wish to be here, telling Voldemort these things. But as Malfoy had witnessed Iris' slip, he and Dumbledore knew they had no other choice.

At least if it was Severus delivering the news, they could limit just what he was told.

"We're not sure, but she may be one of the descendants of Athena," he said blandly, keeping his tone even.

"Descendent of Athena? I was of the mind you thought it an old wives' tale, Severus," Voldemort said, sitting back in his chair, his eyes carefully trained on Snape. "Foolish stories told to children."

"It would seem I may be mistaken," Severus replied. "She exhibits some of the rumored traits, though I must admit, my knowledge of just what they can do is limited. Many of the records of them have been lost with time."

"She had no wand? And you could feel it? The power?" Voldemort asked.

"Yes, my lord," Snape said.

Once the anger had passed over how reckless Iris had been, it had been replaced by fear. Despite whatever annoyance she conjured in him, she was Lily's younger sister. And Severus knew Voldemort would stop at nothing to find her, if anything to find out if the rumours were true.

"To think... all this time she had survived... I had not known there was another child there that night," Voldemort murmured. "Nor that she could be so... useful."

It was difficult for Severus to refrain from snorting at the musing that Iris would be useful to the Dark Lord. The one thing that she most definitely had in common with her older sister was that she would not so easily bend to Voldemort's will. Of that he was most certain.

Iris was now in more danger than she had ever been. Voldemort would capture her and break her down until he ultimately killed her when she did not change her loyalties.

And here he had worried that her foolish relationship with the Quidditch player would expose her.

"And you had no idea who she was or that she was there?" Voldemort asked.

"No. She is quite good at concealing herself. I was under the impression that she was a distant relation of Dumbledore's that he was doing a favor for. I had no idea she was Potter's aunt, nor that she possessed such power," he said. "I had suspicions, of course, but did not realize the truth until she exposed herself."

Voldemort was silent as he contemplated for a moment.

"We must find her. If she will not join us, we must destroy her," he said.

"Yes, Lord Voldemort," Snape said, bowing his head.

"Go. See what you can glean at Hogwarts," he said. Severus nodded and left.

 Severus nodded and left
