He was a warrior, he had always known that. Fighting against the force of evil, and protecting the weak and helpless. For he had done what a thousand men could not, during his immortal lifespan. But even with his acts of good, there were many who viewed him as a killer and devil. While others viewed him as an angel, sent from the heavens to cleanse the world of filth and darkness.

But Kurai did not descend from the heavens or climb his way up from the pits of hell. For he had been born into this world as a human, not a divine being nor a devil. A human, who was cursed the day he died with the power immortality.  But there were things that were not a curse, abilities no one had ever seen. The power of the shadows, he was able to disassemble his body into smoke to ascend to great heights, to hide from the naked eye, or to summon a copy of himself.

These powers proved enough to protect him from the supernatural powers of Heaven and Hell, for his feat of slaying Tsubuyaku peaked the interest of the Demon Kings and Gabriel of Heaven. Through out the years they seeked out Kurai, many wanting to slay him, others wanting him for their peerages. And others simply wanting his powers, but everytime the Devils sent out a scout to find the Shadow. They were sent back heavily injured or sometimes dead, the same for the Angels and Fallen.

They soon viewed, Kurai, The Shadow as a threat. The Angels of Heaven simply left him alone, while the Fallen Angels hunted him as prey, but the Devils. They never left him alone, even after hundreds of years they still tried to find him, to capture him. But with the coming of Modern Society and many more Sacred Gear wielders, they soon lost the trail of the Shadow. And soon enough he was just a memory to the three factions, but some still searched for him. With no success.

But now that trail will become warmer in time, with the coming conflict and soon the Shadow will have to form once again...

[ Present Day ]

The cool breeze of the October night kissed Kurai's face as he overlooked the small town of Kuoh, the town of where he had tracked his target. A stray devil that had been killing many young men, and feasting on their corpses. He stared down at his gloved hand, he cursed himself for not getting to this monster quicker. If he had he could have stopped all this unnecessary death. But that didn't matter now, what mattered is making sure that no more death comes to this town.

Looking down from his small cliff edge he watched the warehouse of where the stray was, his eyes squinting under his mask. He reached up to his head, his surroundings turning black and grey. He saw the familiar white trail, where she had entered the building. He disappeared into a black mist, appearing near the open door. The putrid smell of rotting attacked his nostrils, but over the years he wasn't affected by the smell. Drawing his blade he silently stepped into the warehouse.

His steps were silent but quick, as he moved towards a crate kneeling down next to it. He listened to the sounds of tearing flesh, what he suspected to be her latest victim. He peered over the crate watching as the hulking figure of what seemed to be a human and ogre hybrid feasted on a teenage boy. He held his sword tightly, in his left hand he drew three shurikens from his belt. He fell back into the shadows, his body merging with the natural dark. The devil before it could take another bite began to sniff the air.

"What is that smell?..." - She sniffed again, but covered her nose in disgust. "It smells horrible! Worst than my food!" - She began to look around, from the shadows three shurikens flew out at her landing in her body. She screeched like a banshee in pain, enraged she began to strike out at the darkness. But all she got back from it was silence, in the rafters Kurai looked down at her. Then he took a step forward falling towards the devil, hearing the sound of air being parted the devil looked up seeing a white masked man in black and red clothing falling towards her. Before she could bring up a defense, Kurai stabbed his blade into her back. Quick on his feet he dragged the blade through her side.
