The wind rustled through my fur as I raced through the woods. Jake and Paul pushed themselves against me to distract me as we all ran side by side, dodging trees ever so often. Small yelps and playful growls were all that was heard as we ran. Our minds though were a completely different story.

Jesus Jake get your fat ass off me I swear to god.

Literally, Paul, no one asked for your godman opinion.

Boys boys, stop fighting. Besides, we all know you're both fat as fuck.

Oh, you're gonna pay for that N/n.

As we reached a small clearing Jake tackled me, sending us both into a tumble. I could hear Paul's laughter in my head as I shook the leaves out of my coat. Jake was walking around like a prancing pony, head held high and eyes closed, mocking his momentary win. I slowly got up and lowered myself, putting pressure on my back legs. Paul's eyes widened, as much as you could register a wolf doing so, and before he could even warn Jake I pounced. A blur of red and gray was all you could see as we nipped and rolled around, with my form eventually pinning him down by his neck. A warning growl came from my throat.

You're down Jake, maybe next time don't get too cocky too fast.

Are you sure about that Y/n? Might wanna watch your 6.

I registered what he meant too late as I was sent head over tail from a force on my back. I got up quickly and could see both boys shaking with laughter, Paul being the one to come to his pack mate's rescue.

Oh haha, very funny. You only got the jump because I was distracted.

Jake and Paul exchanged a look with each other, and if wolves could look exasperated these ones definitely did.

Oh sure Y/n, you were too busy staring into Jake's eyes to hear me very noisily walking behind you.

I rolled my eyes at them and began to walk to the top of a small hill near us.

If we are done fooling around like children, maybe we can actually do what we came out here to do. I mean we've been out here for almost 2 hours and I'm starting to hear the rest of the pack mobilize.

Paul looked at me with a tilt in his head, If you can hear them from this far away then you must have some pretty great hearing, even for a wolf.

Jake seemed to agree, and both of them joined me at the top of the hill. After a couple of minutes of us scanning the terrain, Jake speaks up.

If we take that ridge up, we can just walk across the river till we meet with another patrol section. That way we can get a good sweep of the area while keeping the high ground.

Paul scoffed a bit, That and we can keep an eye on those bloodsuckers.

My blood ran cold at his words, a growl ripping from the back of my throat. What do you mean bloodsuckers? You guys have those leeches in town and no one thought to tell me beforehand?

The boys looked a little nervous, Jake taking the initiative to explain. Well, we haven't really had time. And honestly, it slipped my mind for a while. I was just excited to see you again.

I was a little hesitant but nodded my head a bit. I took a step forward to begin our makeshift patrol, the boys a couple of steps behind me. Well, we have a good amount of extra time, might as well explain everything.

And so they did. They told me everything about the Cullens. About how they maintained a permanent residence nearby. They told me about how our ancestors developed a treaty line to keep the peace, and that the only reason they were allowed to stay was because of their vegetarian lifestyle. They also decided to catch me up to speed, much to Jake's dismay, about Bella Swan. How she got tangled up in the Cullens mess her Junior year, and how when they left she was basically a shell of herself. How she found refuge in Jake and learned the pack's secret when she slapped Paul in the face, I did give him an affectionate nudge at that, and also how she went running back into his arms the second he came back.
