!! TW: mention of blood, death, and possibly other serious topics !!
297 years ago, the world as we knew it was changed forever after several nuclear bombs were deployed. As an attempt to save the human race, several emergency space stations were packed with supplies and people and sent to the skies before the unstoppable approaching doom could touch the ground. Thirteen stations, filled with the last remaining humans, floating in space. After Apollo, the biggest of them all, exploded, the other twelve stations joined together to create the Ark.
Experts believe the radiation will fade five hundred years later, and earth will be back to the green and blue we once knew...but what most of the people don't know is that they don't have that much time.
The Ark goes by a system, and a strict set of laws. Supplies are rationed, and everyone is only ever given what they need to survive, no more.
To limit the amount of resources being used, only one child is allowed per family. Any more, and it would be a crime.
All crimes are punishable by death, even the most minute ones.
This is, of course, if you are of age. Anyone below eighteen found guilty of a crime are locked away until they reach adulthood, which is when they will face their punishment, being launched into space...or more commonly known as 'being floated'.
Who enforces these laws? The council, of course, which is lead by the Chancellor. The council consists of several people, including the Head Doctor, Head Engineer, Head Scientist, Head of Security, Head of Education, and Head of Resources. They decide wether or not a citizen convicted of a crime is guilty or not. They also basically decide on the future of the Ark, but in the long run, the Chancellor, elected by the people, has the final say.295 years after the world changed, the board had discovered that the oxygen supply was running out quicker than they hoped. They weren't going to be able to survive another year, let alone another hundred and three years, unless they came up with a solution. Instead of alerting the public, they resorted to a more experimental and risky method. The children, those in cells found guilty of crimes awaiting their eighteenth birthday, and with it, their demise. Children. Criminals...and humanity's last hope.
Little did these kids know that they were going to reach the ground way earlier than they believed. They were going to be the guinea pigs, for lack of a better term. It was the only option. Not only would it tell the people at the Ark whether or not it was safe to return, it would also give them an extra month of oxygen if earth was still inhabitable. They were to be gathered up, put on a dropship, and sent down to the abandoned planet with nothing but each other, the supplies on the ship, and access to communication back to Ark. Let's just hope that everything goes as planned...
((yes i pretty much just copy and pasted from the first one, i did make a few changes though))
