Hawkins Indiana, 1986. The day Eddie Munson was attacked and killed by demobats in the upside down.
Dungeon master in a D&D group called The Hellfire Club. Wanted for murder, a crime Munson did not commit, sacrificing himself to save a town that hated him.
The murders of Chrissy Cunningham, Fred Benson, and Patrick Mckinney were no mystery to the mouthbreathers of Hawkins.

"Hunt The Freak" they would say.

Eddie was to blame.  Over a fantasy game? The Hellfire Club was called a satanic cult.  The game of Dungeons and Dragons though never banned, became frowned upon ever since.
The truth was that Eddie Munson was no murderer.
No. There was what people would call a
"curse".

In the town there was a lab where
children with unique abilities were being kept. With no names given they were called by number.
A special girl who went by the name Eleven escaped one day and ran into 4 boys. Mike Wheeler, Dustin Henderson, Will Byers, and Lucas Sinclair. All 4 boys who would soon be members of the Hellfire Club.

Together they would fight evil and  mysterious creatures from the upside down. With more friends to join over the course of 3 years, some lived, some died, and some disappeared.

The true murderer of the 3 teenagers would eventually be revealed as a child who grew up in Hawkins Lab. This child would go on to be known by different names. Henry Creel was his real name. He would be known as 001 in the lab. Eventually the world would get to know him as a creature named  Vecna.
Vecna murdered the teens by possessing them in their own minds of things that seemed like one's worst fear. All his victims would die the same way by being lifted in the air, snapping their bones, and eventually their eyes would pop out of their head.

Now how did Henry/ 001 become vecna?. Before escaping the lab, Eleven went toe to toe with Creel after he brutally murdered test subjects and betrayed her trust. El overpowered him by so much, she opened a gate to the Upside down and sent 001 there where he would eventually evolve into the creature he became. Vecna found a way to open the gates to the upside down to merge the two worlds together.
Vecna was eventually killed from multiple gunshots fired by Mike's older  sister Nancy Wheeler. However it was too late. Both worlds were merged together.

Nobody knows what happened after the merge that caused an earthquake. Vecna was dead. Eddie Munson killed by Demobats, was left in the upside down after taking his final breath in Dustin Henderson's arms.

One day the upside down went back to, well, being the upside down. Nobody knows how but once again, Hawkins became just another average safe and small town.

It's been 30 years since then. There hadn't been any murders in Hawkins. The Hellfire Club eventually mourned the loss of their beloved friend and Dungeon Master and eventually would go to move on from their days in Hawkins High.

Now we lay the story here in Hawkins. it's the year 2016. It's a new year. Snow is falling on the ground, everyone is putting away the holiday decorations.  and me? Well.. I'm about 4 months away from graduation.

It was my senior year at Hawkins High. I made pretty decent grades. Were they Harvard material? Absolutely not, but they were good enough to start taking classes online in the fall. I studied hard, but I always made time for my friends and D&D club meetings every Friday night after school. I'm currently Dungeon Master in my group called The Hellfire Club. After 3 decades the club  lives on.

When Eddie Munson died, my adopted uncle, Dustin Henderson took over as DM until he graduated from College. After my parents were killed in an accident Dustin took me in and raised me and taught me how to play D&D.
I joined Hellfire before my Freshman year of high school. I was made DM 6 months later after our former one up, quit and moved to Ohio.  He was kind of a shitty DM anyway. After being made DM everyone else was happy. My uncle was so proud the night I came home and told him what happened. He mentioned how one of his best friends was one of the best Dungeon Masters there ever was. He kept most of the plays Eddie had written down as memoriam. I was happy to carry on the man's legacy.
