There was a gate if you followed down along the fence, but walking over there meant risking to get seen and they were not even open and so the blond male let his fingers follow the metal fence as he walked down. All around him were trees standing proudly and stretching themselves to the skies to make themselves more known. They were green even if it was getting closer to fall and he enjoyed seeing the last sights of green before it all turned into a wildfire. It was his favorite time of the year, the heat slowly coming to an end as the forest started preparing itself for the cold which was approaching. He loved it out here.
Finally, he reached what he had been looking for. In the fence close to the ground there was a hole in which someone had clipped up the fence to sneak in. Trying to climb over it would have been impossible since it looked to be at least five or seven meters up. Trying to crawl underneath it was not an option either since the fence was buried deep and hard to the ground to assure there would be no trespassing. It was more for back in the day than now, especially looking at the clipping in the fence.
It was not old since the metal at the end had not started to rust yet, but it did not look like it had been left like this the other day judging by the leaves which stuck to it. He smiled to himself as he took off his hood, after that he took off his bag and slid it in between the two ends of the cut open fence. He pushed it slightly to the side and tried to widen it slightly to make sure his clothes did not get stuck to the sharp ends.
Getting inside was not too hard since he had done this multiple times already, it had become as easy as a dance most of the time by now. If that was good or not he was not sure but it would have to do. It was some sort of skill he had worked up for many many years and it worked like a charm. Never did he have to worry about getting out of narrow entrances or moving among crowds since he had since long learned how to smoothly move his body and twist and turn. It was all natural.
Once he had gotten between the first fence, there was just a second one to go. This was identical to the other fence and there was a little path between them to separate the two. Maybe guards had been walking here or maybe it was just to assure the safety of no one getting in or out even more.
The area was not too old as it may sound, it had closed down forty years ago and has been standing empty ever since. No one had thought of any use of the place and it was quite sad that it had just been left standing. There was even a sportshall in there which had been left to rot which was a shame, local kids could have had great use of it if they had just taken care of it properly. But for now it would make for an interesting place to practice, so at least there was one win here.
He had to walk a little while before he found the second clipping in the fence and slithered inside. He flung his backpack up over his shoulder as he looked at his surroundings. As of now he was standing in tall grass which had not been mowed for a very long time and had been free to grow however it wanted. A few trees were aligned with the fence and hid the tall metal structure behind them. In front of him he could spot a road which had cracks and looked pale from being exposed to the different kinds of weather out here.
It was often raining, but it could also become very hot during the summers and so it created a difference which the old abandoned structures picked up on. The water could easily fall into cracks and the sun would heat it up, making it humid and creating an even worse environment. Mold could easily start to grow and that is why he always made sure to bring his safety mask. For now he was not sure how much mold awaited inside of there and so he wanted to be safe and kept it hanging over his nose and his mouth. He would like to keep his lungs as healthy as he could while doing this.
The sky was light blue above him, almost switching towards a gray kind of color. It created a special aura in the area which he enjoyed a lot, making it feel a little scary. He really enjoyed it and his favorite practice times were always the one which were done on days like these. He had incredibly high hopes for this place and he could barely contain his excitement as he hurried over towards the small road and out of the tall grass.
Lots of small buildings littered the ground, some where inmates had been kept and other buildings where they had been working or had other kinds of activities. It had been very modern with this design once it had been in work and it was well known for its kind of treatment. All of the inmates had been boys who were mostly in imprisoned here, serving their time as slaves for their crimes against the kingdom.
This was where he could go to hide away from everyone else, and make sure that people on the streets or wandering kids accidentally found him as he swung his sword. The sword was beautiful, gorgeous even. He had found it as a young teen in the woods, by accident. It looked like it had been placed as a memory of someone. The sword had rested against a gravestone with the name covered by moss.
It was stupid, he knew so. Disrespectful even. But young as he was, he took the sword and ran with it. He had practiced with it ever since, swinging it around in the abandoned camp. He had grown talented, swinging it with ease in a beautiful manner.
Although, he had to be careful while walking out as to make sure they would not get seen or trip on anything which could be hiding in the tall grass. It was always bad to get spotted in places like these since people could report it and you could get caught, but most of the time if you were careful and quick you could get out pretty quickly and safely. It was also not easy to hide a sword, and so whenever he walked to and from the camp he had to be extra careful. It was easy once you were inside, though.
It looked so beautiful to watch over the area in the sunset. It was so calm and so quiet as the wind took care of the grass and let it sway. The trees were rustling behind him and promising freedom beyond the fence, making themselves known as they hid the buildings which rested where they stood. It was pretty, and he wished he could stay forever and just watch it all. Although he had to always be home before dark.
One day, however, he had failed.
Just as he threw the sword under the fence, about to climb under it, he heard a voice. Someone was shouting at him, and his heart picked up its pace. The guard was on him before he even had time to understand what had happened, a knife close to his throat and threatening his life.
He reached for his sword, and blood splattered over his face.
That day, he woke up screaming. The memory of the dream was strong in his head as the birds sang outside his window. A part of him knew that that day would forever be stuck haunting him.
