SOPHIA'S POV
"well?" Jake said eagerly, "what did you find!" he said looking between Maddie and I.
Maddie sighs. "the agency her parents got fired from.. they.." she says softly.
"they experiment on sick kids." i said dryly.
"they what?!" Jake says.
"is everything okay over here?" Kyle suddenly emerges from the door.
"yeah, we're fine." i said hugging my stomach.
"are- are you cold? we can go inside?" Jake says.
"no i'm fine. just a stomach ache." i said. probably from all the stress.
"we ended things from there. we dont want to go too deep otherwise it'll just make things worse." Maddie says.
"okay yeah that's fine." Jake says.
"okay well i'm gonna get going. Jake you coming?" Maddie said
I really hope he goes with her. please go with her, please go with her.
"uh i'm gonna hang back for a bit." he said, looking at me trying to figure out my expression on my face.
i'm so doomed
"okay, peace out bitches." she said.
we walk into the kitchen and i'm already nervous. i have a feeling i know where we're gonna end up talking about. probably yesterday.
and as if reading my thoughts "so um, yesterday.." he said
"yesterday?" i said trying to act confused.
"come on, Soph, dont be like that." he said sadly.
"be like what?" i asked genuinely confused about that.he scoffs annoyed at my response.
"you know what, fine be like that. i dont care." he said going to the door.
"wait Jake.." i said.
"Jake stop!" i said louder.
he suddenly stopped walking and tilted his head up, sighing.
"i'm sorry, okay? everything with the information we found about my parents-"
"it's not about your parents!" he yelled and i flinched. he's never yelled at me before.
"i-i'm sorry.." he says softly. "it's just frustrating.. because i know something's up but you're not telling me." he said.
the entire time i was looking down not daring to look at his face.
"you broke her heart. that's why." someone behind us said.
i immediately turned around, my eyes like deer in headlights.
"yesterday, she got dressed up for you. hoping that you'd ask her out because you seemed so nervous on the phone talking to her about meeting up." Kyle said.
i was crying at this point my tears falling but not making a sound. how fucking dare he.
"Soph? is this true." Jake asks in a whisper.
i say nothing and sprinted to my room like my life depended on it, slamming the door shut.
i started crying softly covering my mouth so nothing would come out.i texted Maddie what happened and she insisted on face timing.
"Sophia... don't be upset i'm sure Jake will understand." Maddie said with pity in her voice.
"understand what?! his best friend is so damn desperate for him that she thinks at every little moment he's gonna ask her out?!" i said.
"im sorry but i have to go to sleep Mads. i'll see you tomorrow." i said sadly.
