"I'm sure my grandson will adore you. You will be the best of friends.'' Mr. Laurence told April, unlocking his arm from hers. His knuckles rapped on the door and Theodore Laurence answered. He was about four feet tall at the age of seven. He was hesitant to say hello to a stranger.

"Theodore.'' Mr. Laurence pushed.

"Hello.'' The boy smiled hesitantly. Mr. Laurence gave the small boy a certain look that made April shiver.

"W-Would you like to come in?'' Theodore gulped.

"Yes, thank you.'' April smiled, relieving him of the pressure he was under.

___

"Wanna see my room?'' Theodore asked politely, after his grandfather had explained that April would be staying with them.

"Yes!'' She told him.

Once April looked around his bedroom, she sat on his bed.

"What happened to your parents?'' Theodore blurted out after sitting next to her, placing a pillow in his lap.

"Oh. Um..'' She hesitated. "They passed away. They were returning from the theatre one night but didn't make it back. Nobody will tell me what really happened.''

"I'm sorry.'' Theodore sighed. "Uh.. do you like pirates? I have hats and swords if you want to play!'' The child attempts, trying to make the girl feel better.

"I love playing pirates! My parents never played with me.''

"My grandfather won't play with me either.''

"Thank you for making me feel better, Teddy.'' She smiles at him.

"Teddy?''

"Is it alright if I call you that?''

"Yeah.'' Teddy tells April, going pink in the cheeks.

"Teddy!'' She calls him, now fourteen and Teddy fifteen.

"Yes, my love?''

"My dress! Where is it!?''

"In your closet, pippi.'' He always calls her that italian word, and she can never seem to find out what it means.

"Thank you, Teddy!''

***

"Teddy are you ready for the ball?'' April asks, walking into his bedroom.

He was about to put his shirt on. "Almost, pippi.'' He told April, eyes lingering on her purple dress.

It was a light purple, sparkles everywhere, paired with white gloves and white heels.

"Done, April.'' Teddy tells her, walking to her.

He loops his arm through hers, and takes her downstairs.

"Oh, you look just gorgeous April!'' Mr. Laurence expresses.

"She does.'' Teddy agrees, looking at the girl next to him in admiration.

"Our chariet awaits!'' She yells, dragging Teddy out to their carriage, laughing with her best friend.
