Tess and Joel had a drunk one night stand one night, and in result, Finely was conceived, and thank's to the apocalyptic world that everyone now lived in, abortions can't get done safely, and Tess didn't want to risk dying. So they made a mutual agreement. Despite Tess definitely not being ready for a child, Joel still greeving his daughter who was killed at the start of the apocalypse, and neither of them being in a relationship.
They'd raise this baby. They'd love this baby.
And they stuck to their word. Eventually Tess gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, they had chosen a name a few weeks prior, going with Finely so the name would go with either genders. Joel was terrifed he wouldn't be able to raise Finely they way he once raised Sarah, scared that his trauma would ruin everything, but Tess helped him pull through.
They'd kill for her, they had killed for her. They'd do anything for her, anything to keep her safe and protected. Though sometimes there efforts wouldn't be enough. Finely was reckless, brave and care free, and with the horrible creatures that romed the earth, that wasn't a very good thing at times. But they managed to do their iob.
But when they're asked to take an immune girl outside the quarantine zone in return of their weapons, an offer they simply can't refuse, the impossible happens.
