DAISY {Eric Matthews}

Prologue

A little girl sporting two pigtails delicately plucked a daisy from the ground of her friend's neighbour's garden. She rose from her knees, her small hands trying to rid the dirt from the knees of her white tights. Hearing footsteps the girl looked up to the older man entering his garden, freezing upon being caught, she quickly hid the daisy behind her back.

"And what is going on here?" the man asked, raising his brow. The girl smiled sweetly at the old man replying quietly, "Nothing," before dashing from the garden through the door to her friend's house. She passed through the kitchen in search of a specific someone living in the house.

Spotting said boy sitting on the sofa flicking through a comic, she ran up to him and waited for him to acknowledge her presence. After a few moments, the blonde-haired boy looked up with a huff, "What do you want?" Not taking note of his uncaring tone she presented him with the daisy she had hidden behind her back and asked "Eric, will you marry me?"

"No."

"Why not?" she asked with a pout, widening her eyes. The eight-year-old boy stared at the six-year-old girl with the amount of exasperation only a child could have, "Because you are friends with my little brother and I don't like him, so I don't like you. Simple." He nodded to himself, happy with his reply, and left her to go to the kitchen, trying his best to ignore her small steps following behind him.

In the kitchen, Mr. and Mrs. Matthews sat together enjoying the surprisingly quiet atmosphere, despite having multiple kids currently in the house. Their attention was caught when their oldest son came into the room followed by their youngest son's friend.

"I got you a flower," the little girl tried again with Eric, standing on her tiptoes in front of him and raising the lone daisy into his face. With a sigh, Eric turned to his parents, "Mum, tell Vee I don't want her stupid flower and I don't want to marry her either."

"Aww Eric," came Amy's voice, "Don't be mean, Valerie is a sweet girl, and you would be so lucky to marry her one day."
