Chapter Two
'don't be dramatic'
Cory and Topanga had been going out for a little while now and things seemed to be going well. That is until Cory told Topanga he loved her. Topanga had freaked out and gone over to Valerie's house right after it happened for some advice. Having never been in a relationship before, all Valerie felt she could say was that she was sure Cory meant it. Despite this, Topanga had still decided to ignore Cory so that she could think about things.
Valerie stood with Cory and Shawn by their lockers and decided to stay quiet when Shawn bought up Cory's date with Topanga, she was pretty sure Cory didn't know about Topanga telling her what happened already.
"So how was your night with the lovely Topanga?" Shawn asked, dragging his hand through his hair.
"It was good. Good. 90% good."
"And the other 20%?" Valerie mimed banging her head against the locker at this.
"Well, I- I may have kind of got caught up in the moment and sort of said some things that maybe I shouldn't have said," Cory spoke up fiddling with his hands whilst he talked.
"Cor, did you get emotional with Topanga?"
"It was hard not to. I mean she looked beautiful"
"You didn't tell her that did you?" Shawn questioned concerned. Valerie could laugh. It honestly baffled her how two best friends could have such different views on women.
"No, say she's beautiful. Yeah, like I'd say that, Shawn," a brief pause, "I said 'I love you.'"
Gasping Shawn manages to call Cory an idiot. Valerie was unsurprised at this reaction and tried to encourage Shawn to calm down, "Come on Shawn, don't be dramatic, it isn't that big a deal."
"Not a big deal?! Once word gets around every girl is gonna want to hear it, this is horrible Valerie. Imagine if you had a boyfriend and your friend was told by her boyfriend that he loved her. But you, your boyfriend he doesn't tell you he loves you. How does that make you feel huh? Not so good is it."
Patiently waiting for Shawn to stop ranting, Val pressed her lips together to contain a laugh, boys were dramatic, "Shawn," she grabbed his face to emphasise her point, "I. Would. Not. Care."
"You keep telling yourself that, babe."
"I don't believe telling Topanga that I love her will affect anybody but me and her," Cory interjected calmly, not understanding why Shawn was overreacting.
Valerie couldn't agree more with Cory, but Shawn wouldn't be convinced. As soon as Shawn spotted Eric walking in the halls, he knew he would understand, "Hey Eric. Cory told Topanga he loved her."
"Grandma Topanga what's not to love?" Eric said falsely enthusiastic.
"You don't have a -" Eric held his hand over Valerie's mouth, mumbling her words, "She doesn't know what she's talking about."
"Aww Eric, you have an adorable little brother," said Eric's current girlfriend.
"I sure do, don't I?" Eric replies sarcastically gripping tightly onto Cory's neck.
Eric tells Christi he'll catch up with her and continues to hound Cory about telling Topanga he loves her, "Christi's going to expect me to tell her I love her," Eric stressed. He even started to practise the best way to say it, which only left Valerie to roll her eyes at him, she bet he didn't even know her last name. When Eric wandered off it left Cory to worry further about him and Topanga, he didn't want things to not be okay between them.
