By the time the sun started to set, I had six hunts under my belt. Each hunt was over my current level, so it was needless to say I farmed a shit ton of EXP.
We wound up staying at the campsite nearest to Lestallum that night. Since we hadn't gone to collect the money from any of our hunts yet, we couldn't afford another night at the Leville.
Once we made it to camp, I was prepared to collapse where I stood and fall asleep. Though the numerous fights were exhausting, I was glad for the distraction from what had transpired earlier with Noct. I was extremely nervous about what he saw when he went sifting through my memories. Did he see when my dad told me to kill myself? Did he see the dream I had the night prior? Or did he see anything about Malcolm and just didn't tell me? Maybe he wanted to watch me more closely first to get more information.
I knew it wouldn't help to overthink it, but knowing that and doing something about it were two very different things.
"Hey, you feeling alright?" Prompto asked.
It took me a moment to realize he was talking to me. And then another moment to realize I was holding the firewood hostage as I stared off into the darkening horizon.
"Oh, yeah, I'm sorry. I was totally holding everyone up," I said trying to brush it off as I put the firewood into the pit for Gladio to light. "I'm just... tired ya know? Not really used to fighting this much... or... at all.." I trailed off when I noticed the sea of concerned looks coming my way.
"You should go lay down, we can handle the rest," Prompto said as he took the pot I was getting ready to set over the fire.
"But everyone else did just as much- if not more than I did. I should be helping set up too," I protested.
"But we're all used to this. You'll be of more use to us tomorrow when you're not dead on your feet," Gladio reasoned.
"Here, if you can't sleep, you can play Kings Knight on my phone. We'll wake you when dinner's ready." Prompto pulled his phone out of his pocket and handed it to me with Kings Knight already on the screen.
After a moment more of internal debate, I gave in. I had always wanted to play Kings Knight after all.
I accepted the phone and crawled into the tent. It was only then that I realized I didn't have a sleeping bag. Oh well, I guess a the tent floor will have to do, I thought. I knew I wasn't going to be able to sleep, especially not after my dream the night before, so I got right to playing King's Knight. It was just as fun as the boys made it look; I could see why Noct and Prompto were obsessed with it.
After about 25 minutes, I was officially a master at King's Knight and Prompto had come to get me for dinner.
"Knock knock sleepy head." Prompto paused in the entryway to the tent, and seemed to take notice of what I was laying on- or lack thereof. "You don't have a sleeping bag," he said as more of a statement than a question.
"I don't have a sleeping bag," I mirrored his words and tone.
"Oh man," Prompto brought his hand up to his forehead. "How could we forget that?"
I shruged as I got up. "Don't beat yourself up about it, I only realized once I came to lay down."
"I'm sorry Finley," Prompto paused and looked at his phone in my hand. "Was that the reason you couldn't sleep?"
"Oh- uh- yeah I guess it was." I had been so absorbed by the game that I completely forgot that I was going to pretend to be asleep when I heard them coming to get me. It wasn't such a big deal since Prompto gave me an out, but I was just adding to my pile of lies.
