Maverick's POV

2 days after mom's internment, I decided to start putting her things away. I sorted them out and put them in different boxes. I asked the help of mom's driver and some of her maids na ilagay lahat ng boxes sa basement.

"Yaya, maliligo na ako. Pag dumating na si Atty. Valdez, make him wait sa may pool area. Prepare something for him ha." Bilin ko bago umakyat sa kwarto.

I spent an hour in the shower, just letting the cold water run down from the top of my head all the way down to my toes— like a depressed person in a sad music video. Iniisip ko kasi yung last will ni mama.

I'm sure she left something for her driver, her 5 maids and her private nurse who became her family through the years na wala ako. I'm sure she also left something for her 7 favorite charities.

My mom's rich as fuck.

That should be a good thing, right? Because I love money. I love living a lavish life, and a lot of people pray for a life like this, yung parang unlimited ang pera.

I can't imagine how rich I'll be dahil kay mama, and it's fucking exciting! But a part of me knows that all the money can't fill the void in my heart na wala na si mama.

Tears were starting to form in my eyes, pero bago pa man tuluyang tumulo, may kumatok na sa pinto. "Sir, nag aantay na po si Atty. Medyo nag mamadali daw po siya."

"Okay. Give me five minutes."

Dali dali akong nag bihis.

"I apologize for rushing you, Mr. Martinez. I just have another important appointment after this."

"It's alright, Atty. Sorry I kept you waiting. Let's start?" I sat in front of him and we started discussing mom's last will.

I was right. Mom left hundreds of thousands each para sa driver at sa mga katulong, and a million for each of her 7 charities.

She wants to build a school and a hospital. Meron pa na naka separate na budget for some feeding programs na may specific schedule na.

"Wow. That's a lot." Namangha kong sabi.

"Not really. Halos barya palang yan sa kayamanan ni Mrs. Martinez."

Grabe. I can't imagine what my mom must have left for me talaga kung ganon.

"Axel Maverick Martinez..." pagbasa ni Atty. sa papel bago inabot sakin.

I read it carefully.

"The house, the car, and ₱5,000,000?"

"Yes."

"That's it?"

Tumango si Atty. I gave him a 'di ako nakikipagbiruan' look.

"Atty, there must be a mistake. I'm the only son. And she has no other relatives na pwede niyang pamanahan. So kung ito lang ang iniwan niya para sakin, where's the rest of her money? Asan yung iba niyang properties?"

Atty. Valdez fixed his glasses and loosened his tie. Parang kabadong kabado sa tanong ko.

I decided to snatch the papers inside the briefcase on the table. He tried getting them back but he must've seen the anger and frustration in my eyes kaya hinayaan niya nalang ako.

I read the papers carefully, and ito na nga. It's the list of mom's properties— a house, a commercial building, a business and some lots, plus ₱800,000,000.

It was in someone else's name.

"Ella Alyxandria Gutierrez?"
