"Seraphine" a woman said shrill voice. She was answered by silence.

"Seraphine!" She yelled again, raising her voice. "Let's go already, we have to beat the traffic! Get up!"

Seraphine groaned, still in bed. Oh right, today's moving day, she thought. She would be moving down to Los Angeles to attend university, but while anyone else may have been excited, she wasn't looking forward to it. With the blinding lights and noisy swarms of people everywhere she would have much preferred to say in her home town, located in a more rural part of the state. Here, things were quiet and peaceful, and you could go out and look at the stars without the buzz of traffic or light pollution obscuring your view.

She started to get dressed, picking out a t-shirt and jeans, ignoring her horrific bedhead. She would fix it later. She was just smaller than the average height and a bit curvy, due to her working out a lot. She wasn't shredded, but people could tell there was a bit of muscle. She had a caramel brown skin tone from her mother, and long flowing black hair. Too long, I'll have to get it cut when I get over there.

The thing she hated the most was that she was going to have to deal with people in LA. Having been there a few times, she knew what they were like. She looked down at her copy of Catcher in the Rye, one of her favorite books.

Phonies. That was what she thought of the people there. Well, all except for 4 of them. She had met 4 boys at her orientation and made quick friends with them. It felt like she had been drawn to them, and they had been drawn to her. They didn't leave her side through the weekend long orientation, except for when she went to her room of course. At the end, they said they would be renting a place near the school, and asked her if she wanted to live with them. She didn't know why, but she trusted them so much that she accepted.

However, as was expected, her mother, Ria, wasn't too happy about it. Her mother portrayed herself as an extremely religious person, but in reality was one of those Christians that never picked up their Bibles. Seraphine was also a religious Catholic, but truly religious. Of course, she sort of knew where her place was in the grand scheme of things. I guess you'd have to know where you fit in the 'grand plan' if you were the daughter of the Devil. Most people didn't have that luxury.

Ria knew what her daughter was, hating her for it. In the end, she agreed that Seraphine could stay with the boys, but mostly because she had grown afraid of her daughter in recent years. She had seen her intelligence and strength grow rapidly. Ria didn't dare provoke Seraphine, out of fear that the girl's father would finally show up in her life and do God knows what.

Every time she had expressed her fear of that to Seraphine, the girl always scolded her saying "If you truly trusted in the Lord then there would be no need to fear the Devil, or anything for that matter." Seraphine thought she was being ridiculous mostly because her father had never bothered to come and see her in all of her 18 years on Earth.

Ria scoffed. How can Seraphine talk about trust in the Lord when she knows good and well what she is. A dirty and evil child that I was cursed with. A curse on the Earth itself brought on by the Devil. Does she think that God will truly accept her once this is all over?

Finally ready, Seraphine came out of her room. Entering the kitchen, she was met with a plate of eggs and hashbrowns that her mother had made.

"Hurry up and eat." Ria called from the living room, watching tv. Seraphine smiled at the plate. Her relationship with her mother was strained, but it could be nice.

"Thanks ma" she replied before digging in.

They got in the car and took off not long after, with moving boxes in the trunk and backseat. After the somewhat long drive, they arrived at the home of the boys. Two of them were in the front yard, talking about things. Seraphine recognized them as Alexander and Aris. Getting out of her car, she walked up to them and they embraced her.
