It had been 2 years since Seraphine's fateful meeting with her companions. They were now halfway done with college and looking forward to the real world, though each and every one of them knew what was in store. They'd gladly face it together.
Seraphine looked back on their first beach trip fondly. They were all meant to be together.
War, Conquest, Famine, and Death. I can't believe I didn't realize it first, she thought.
When she was young, Sera used to have dreams or visions about her role to play as the Devil's daughter, the antichrist. She had known for a long time what she was, at first wanting to reject her role. Then simply accepting it.
The boys realized what she was after only about 6 months of them all living together. Seraphine went out at night occasionally to stretch her wings, which were black, but turned red at the feather tips. One night the boys caught her, and after explaining everything to them, she was pleasantly surprised to see that they weren't mad or disgusted at her.
"Actually, it explains a lot," Tobias said, reassuring her.
The boys all then explained that strange things would happen around them, as if they had some sort of power, but it was different for each one.
Aris would find that people would get more and more aggressive around him with no provocation. He also found that he had gotten extremely good at combat and wielding different weapons, as he hit perfect bulls eyes in archery class without having ever picked up a bow before. War.
Alexander found that he was now extremely persuasive to people, with students very nearly getting down on their knees in front of him over the simplest things, almost worshipping him. His charisma went through the roof, but as a result, women couldn't leave him alone now. Conquest.
Joseph saw that when he was around people for a while, they would get extremely tired and hungry, while Joseph gained energy, as if he had somehow taken it from them. Famine.
Lastly, Tobias would often see plants wilt as he walked by, flowers and grass turning brown and dry as he walked over them. Small creatures like insects would even sometimes die in front of him, their bodies decaying faster than usual. Death.
As they told her all this, Seraphine stayed silent, trying to take it all in. Finally she spoke. "Our meeting was no accident or random chance. I know what you all are. You four are my horsemen of the apocalypse."
The four accepted their roles quite easily and willingly, swearing themselves to her that night. Vowing to follow her to the end of the Earth. They didn't know exactly when their time would come, or even if it was soon. It could be 1 year from now or 10,000, but Seraphine believed she would know when it was time. Technically, they could not leave Earth until their work was done, meaning that they were sort of immortal.
"But we're all still human, and vulnerable. Just because we can live forever doesn't mean we will" she warned them. While they were definitely stronger than normal people they could still be taken out by a bad illness, car accident, gun shot, and stab wound just like anyone else.
It was clear that the bond between them all had grown even stronger still. In the time between then and now, Seraphine had taught them how to control and focus their powers. Teaching them the lessons that her uncles had taught her when she was a little girl. I wonder how they are. She remembered her uncles somewhat fondly, even though they were angels and she, well she was far from that.
Her uncle, Amenadiel, would visit her often when she was a little girl. Teaching her how to fight and fly, controlling her wings and using them as weapons. However, he did it because her grandfather had asked him to, and not because he wanted to. Amenadiel was rough and cold, seeing her as pure evil incarnate.
