The first day of school was nerve racking for Alyssa. She hasn't been in a school in years. Even before she lost her parents, she had always been homeschooled. Her parents preferred it that way.

They were able to teach her more about their ancestry without fear of Alyssa telling other students. At a young age Alyssa wasn't just taught about her abc's and 123's but how to levitate a pencil and how to properly scout your surroundings. By the age of four she was helping her mother pick out healing flowers for tea making for the local nursing home.

It was a nice life. She did always wished it was more than just a memory.

The day went by quicker than expected. All her classes were boring. Imagine taking classes on how to do addition and subtraction when your skill set is at advance calculus, yeah. It was expected, she didn't actually ever believe this school would offer her anything she didn't already know, education wise. It always made her wonder why Hope would ever come to this school to learn when all they teach is earth magic. I mean good for them but the world isn't that innocent, why should the witches be.

In New Orleans they aren't exactly shy about showing their young death spells. Most of the older generations grew up in war times. Why shouldn't they know how to defend themselves?

When lunch came around she found herself staring at the most pathetic wolf pack she had ever laid eyes on. They were large in numbers and had plenty of potential, but instead they spent their time fighting with egotistical vampires and airhead witches. How positively cliqué.

All it did was make her blood start to simmer. She may be a witch but she had a wolf's heart, her dad's heart. He was her hero, when she started to forget what he looked like she begged Hope to paint him. Hope painted and drew a million different versions from the descriptions Alyssa would give her but none of them seemed right. Something was always off, sometimes the eyes or the cheekbones or the size of his lips. At times she wondered even if Hope did manage to paint him exactly as he was, would she even be able to recognize him?

None of it mattered; he was gone. She tried her hardest not to imagine a life where they got to raise her. Picturing those types of dreams only seemed to pour salt into open wounds. She even got hits of guilt.

Davina and Kol tried so hard to fill the role of parents, wishing they never had to ... seemed ... selfish in a way. She knew they would never allow her to feel guilty for missing her parents but she couldn't help it. Everything was a big ball of undealt with trauma she was determined to ignore.

"You're new too, right ?"

I snapped back into reality realizing I've been staring at my lunch for the past 20 minutes. A boy, who looked around sixteen years old, sat down across the table from me. He was tall, maybe around six foot one if she had to guess. He had darker skin with brown eyes. Even in his school uniform you can still see his muscles popping out. Maybe he did that on purpose.

"Is it cool if I sit here ? I'm hiding from the Saltzman twins. And having someone to hide with seems like a better cover." He explained all without me saying a word back.

I nodded my head. Maybe she could use this as an example of her attempting to make friends with Vincent. Lord knows she wasn't going to avidly look for friends.

They ate in silence for a few minutes before she noticed the wolf pack's attention shift to the boy sitting in front of her. He was a wolf alright. Those idiots don't even know how to identify a wolf without being told. Being able to know when another wolf is in your vicinity is a very vital skill. When the packs used to fight over land it was just to stay alive. Now it's more of an alert. And the schools pack had completely ignored her the entire day.
