Stirr'd by a painted beauty to my verse,
Who other themselves ornament doth use
And with every thread sewn in this purse
Making a girl of proud care.
With pen and ink, with brush and paint's art.
With August's firstborn flowers, and all things rare
That written page sings in one's heart.
O' let me, true in love, but truly read,
And then, believe me, my love is as fair
As any father's daughter, love is red.
As those red candles fix'd in heaven's air;
Let them say more than like of hearsay well;
I will not praise that purpose not to sell.
