CAN YOU HEAR THE MOON- Grady
Julian Vaughn, Themis Football Field, 1998
"Good game you guys!" I yelled at the team. Even though it was only a practice game, they did amazing. One day, I hope to be on the team with them. The team captain, Ryan Ellesworth, whispered something to the rest of the team. They all seemed like they were trying to contain their laughter. Even though I had no clue what they were laughing about I still laughed and smiled. It was pretty awkward. The football team let out their laughter, some laughing so hard they started tearing up. My smile faded. I tried my hardest to avoid the awkwardness, so I handed them their water bottles. I mean that is my job as the water-boy. They all walked past me, shoving me out of the way, like I was nothing. I put the water bottles back in their holders and headed towards the coaches office.
As I walked past the girl's locker room, I heard laughing. Probably a joke that one of the girls made. Suddenly, the door flung open, almost hitting me in the face. I stumbled back to not get hit. A girl walked out. Her hair was short, shoulder length with bangs. The color of it was a dusty blonde, borderline brunette. She looked upset.
"Get the fuck out of my way." She said, shoving past me. I wasn't totally upset at her. She looked like something had happened to her. I turned around to face her and yelled sorry. She ignored me.
Once I finally got to the coaches office. I set the bottles on his desk. Coach Hinesburg wasn't in his office. Not too much of a surprise, he typically leaves immediately after practice.
I checked the time as I walked past the front doors of the school. Only five more minutes until the bus arrived. Once I got to the stop, there were three other people in the Themis uniform. A girl with black hair, brown eyes, and black glasses. Her skin was a peach colored brown. She wore long white socks and carried a basic brown leather backpack. She was talking to another girl. The girl was pale, with a super short haircut. Her hair was a dark brown and red streak in it. Green-ish brown eyes matched her light brown backpack. Then there was the final girl, standing alone, leaning against the bus stop sign. She looked familiar, but when she flipped her hair out of her face. It was the girl I ran into earlier. I got a better look at her. She had light blue eyes. Before I could decipher the look on her face, the bus arrived.
