There is a house, on a mountain, in what used to be British Columbia. A speck of warmth in the snow-covered mountains. In it is a man. He has been the only person on the planet for decades, and there will be no one left once he is gone. No angel will magically save him in the end. He will not miraculously find someone else and repopulate. He is at peace with this. He is content with living off the land, in this pristine environment, until it is his time. The man calls himself Synth. His real name was lost long ago. One may think he is a cold-hearted, seen-it-all, broken man, but this is not true. Despite his situation, he is very happy. Happier than he was before the Evacuation.
In the 28th century, the Canadian-based IZed Corporation found an efficient way to put a person in perfect cryostasis for periods up to two centuries without side effects. The process was called the IZed Stasis Capsule. In celebration, the Canadian Government arranged for a time capsule to be buried in Winnipeg, where the discovery was made. In it would be an IZed stasis capsule with someone inside. Someone willing to be put into cryostasis for a century. The volunteer was guaranteed a grant adjusted for inflation to get them on their feet when they awakened.

The volunteer would wake up in a new century. They would know no one and nothing. It would be a fresh start.

The Capsule was to be buried on July 2nd, 2732 it was to be re-opened on September 30th, 2832
