Unsympathetic Patton
Sad Thomas
Sympathetic Janus3rd POV:
Thomas wasn't feeling to well mentally. He came to the conclusion that he needed to go to therapy.
Some of the sides weren't so sure, particularly Patton. Patton was attempting to make Thomas feel guilty for going when he didn't need to.
"They can prescribe any illness you like if you define the terms of your ailments," Patton spoke to Thomas, "you can sing a pretty malady like a black canary, but a crow don't know the smell of carbon monoxide,"
Thomas looked at Patton with confusion. Why did it matter that a crow couldn't smell carbon monoxide?
"How many years will you be on that couch, they could've quilt'd you in the throw by now," Patton continued, "you draw a line in the sand where it ends and you begin but the tide rolls in so who knows? Oh well,"
Thomas wasn't entirely sure what Patton was trying to accomplish but still he listened.
What Patton didn't know was that Janus was listening to their conversation.
"A little identity never hurt nobody but lately I feel like you've been focusing too much on yourself. So how many milligrams are still in there?" Patton said with a loud and demanding tone. "Back in my day we didn't need no feel-good pills and no psychiatrist we just drank ourselves to death, god damn it we liked it,"
Thomas slightly shocked with what Patton had said, he's never heard Patton swear even say God damn it. Did Patton have a bad life before this?
Janus was getting slightly mad with what Patton was saying but stayed hidden still. Was Patton trying to promote unhealthy coming mechanisms.
"Who makes the call what's a symptom what's a flaw, can it be both? Well I suppose that's an answer," Patton continued not even paying attention to Thomas anymore.
"Would you give you your humanity for just a touch of sanity cause god knows it's not like it's cancer," Patton spat the last bit at Thomas.
Thomas was a little taken back with what Patton was saying. Was this even Patton?
Patton turned his head away as he continued.
"And good news for the purists: they've discovered a cure for the symptoms of being alive. It's a painless procedure with a low end of failure but very few patients survive," Patton stated.
Thomas was a little hurt. Was Patton telling him to kill himself?
Janus had heard this running into the room pushing Patton aside. He didn't want Thomas to think about taking his own life.
"And a little conformity never hurt nobody but lately I been worried your loosing yourself, so how many milligrams are left in there?" Janus boomed trying his hardest to convince Thomas to take some time on himself.
Patton, fuming that janus would do that, shoves Janus out the room locking the door. Janus banged in the door, with no avail. He sat there hoping Thomas would open the door or atleast ignore Patton.
"Back in my day we didn't need no feel-good pills and no psychiatrist no we just bleed out in our baths, and god damn it we liked it," Patton said with a trace of anger in his voice.
Patton looked at Thomas sensing his confusion. Patton sighed before backing up.
"Doctor what's my prognosis if the studies show that disease is in the eyes of the beholder," Patton said with a mocking tone trying to mock Thomas.
"Tell me so it goes we depress to impress I guess in layer after layer to get off our chest. It's cold out now we can take it off later. Better safe than sorry, and we both know the dangers," Patton said in his normal voice.
"So doctor could you run another test, got a feeling this time I might just pass it, well if you raise the average," he said in his mocking tone.
"We all sing when the bell curve rings in lyrics symptomatic of the way we think. If our harmonies don't sync we can change our voices, a chorus on condition of our diagnosis," Patton sung in his normal voice with a slight tone. "Oh cause back in my day we didn't need no feel-good pills and no psychiatrist. What can I say except we heed no evil wills or moral nihilist I said back in the days of lobotomies, shock therapy and mad scientist, don't make me waste my breath, god damn it!"
"Don't go, you have no reason plus its a waste of money. plus someone may need it more than you," Patton finished.
He ended by leaving the room. Leaving Thomas alone with his thoughts. Thomas was really confused. Did Patton want him dead? Why didn't Patton want him to go to therapy and get healthy? Why? His thoughts were spiralling when he got a small tap on his shoulder. It was Janus. He snuck in when Patton unlocked the door. He took a death breath before speaking.
"Ain't your you-dentiy at stake? Does aspirin kill you with the pain? You're not your thoughts you're not your brain your just the character you made, up in your head down in your heart, what seem like separate body parts, come together to believe their you and not just chemistry. It's not the way that you were raised or what the advertisement say, not what you pay for or what you pray what you want or what you say. You have the tenancy to redefine disease by what you need I'm afraid I can't provide the choice that you seek. But something tells me that you need, forgive me now if I misspeak. But something tells me that you prefer to be sitting there scrolling through Twitter," Janus said quickly trying his best to help Thomas.
Thomas let it all set in what Janus had said, tears began streaming from his face, he was crying. Janus hugged him trying to comfort him as best as possible. Thomas eventually stopped crying.
"Thomas, you do need to go to therapy, clearly something isn't okay with Patton. You aren't being selfish or rude by need help. It's okay. Don't listen to what Patton has said. He's wrong," Janus said in a soothing tone.
Thomas nodded as Janus left.
