Five came early for Mindy and Lacy as they both came down the hall about the same time going toward the kitchen for coffee. Suddenly it hit Lacy she was not to have coffee since her surgery was going to take place around 7:30.
"Oh Darn, I am sure going to miss this cup of coffee today. I feel so sluggish." Mindy felt so bad for her, she did not want to drink her own cup of coffee but suddenly had a thought. "Don't worry, you will be fast asleep in about an hour and you won't even miss that cup of coffee." Lacy could tell by looking at her that Mindy was feeling bad for her and would probably feel bad if she tried to eat in front of her. She suddenly jumped up and said, "while you have you little bit of breakfast I think I will go start getting dressed in my prettiest gown and robe. They may take it off of me but at least I will go in looking beautiful."
Lacy had a second thought on her way out of the kitchen and told Mindy to be sure and take something to snack on unless she wanted to pay a fortune on it at the hospital. The coffee was free but everything else was expensive. They both were thinking of the long 6 hour surgery that was to take place.
As they pulled into the parking lot of the hospital Lacy was shaking. She felt like she was getting sick. She was even chilling all over. She knew from the past when she got nervous this was usually the way her body reacted. She sat there for a moment thinking. Then Mindy let her out at the door parking the car as close as she could.
Lacy had waited just inside the door and to Mindy she looked like a little girl from where she was standing. A scared little girl. She knew if it were her she would be terrified. In the meantime Lacy was feeling a little bit of self pity and rightly so she thought since she could lose her ovary or any number of things could happen. Then she looked around and saw a young lady not much older than herself being wheeled to the door leaving the hospital with all her flowers on a cart with her. She was minus one leg. Lacy immediately knew she was indeed Blessed.
As she awoke in the recovery room she could here someone in the distance calling her name. She wanted them to just stop and leave her along but they would not. She tried to pry her eyes open and look around when she felt this horrible pain in her stomach. A nurse was beside her bed getting ready to take her blood pressure. "Oh please get me something for pain, please." she said after offering her arm to the nurse. "My name is Miss Marshal honey. I will get you something for pain as soon as I take your vitals. Would you like a sip of water?" "No, I couldn't; just something for pain please."
Lacy was dozing in and out of consciousness as they rolled her into her room. She roused a little and saw people step out of the room but could not tell who they were from where she lay. She caught a glimpse of Mindy but then did not care as they lifted her into the bed and the pain caused her to cry out. She felt embarrassed at first and then thought better of it thinking they would be yelling too if they were in this bed.
The nurse told her friends they could come in for a few minutes and then they would have to leave except for Mindy so Lacy could rest. There was only one more person. It was Josh. Lacy looked at Mindy with a bit of frustration because she knew she had found him somehow. Then she looked at him and ask what the heck he was doing there. He looked a little embarrassed and said, "I just wanted to make sure you were okay. I thought it would be good if you had people waiting when you came out of this."
"What do you care? You didn't care when you left me for someone else." she said tiredly. "I am fine and Mindy will take care of me so you can go. We can be friends. I don't hate you but you are not the kind of friend that I need for a visitor. How's that?" she said sarcastically. That's okay Lace, he said, using his pet name for her. She gave him one of those, "if looks could kill" looks and he said, "well, I will be going then. If you need anything, please tell Mindy to get hold of me." Lacy mumbled a half hearted yea and fell asleep almost before closing her eyes.
