Robin's POV -
"I just don't get it!" Steve exclaimed.
"Don't get what??" I pretended to be clueless as I violently scrubbed the windows of the family video store with a flimsy paper towel.
"How you don't have a girlfriend!" Steve replied. I stopped what I was doing and turned around with a amused look on my face.
"You seriously think I could find love in Hawkins Indiana?.. Get your head out of the clouds dingus." I scoffed, going back to what I was doing.
"That's what I thought at first, but then Jane and Max got together-"
"Steve." I sighed, "I'm quite positive they're the only lesbian couple that'll ever exist in Hawkins."
"Don't give up!" Steve whined, "I got Nancy back, and I thought that would be impossible!"
"Totally different scenario Harrington."
"You're missing the point Robin, you can't assume something is impossible just because it seems impossible!" He argued.
"When did you turn into a motivational speaker?" I joked, throwing the paper towel into the trash Steve was supposed to take our.
"I'm serious."
"I'm fine without a relationship. I've made it 18 years without one, I can wait a little longer." I lied. I was actually dying for a relationship, but I didn't want to admit it.
"That's a load of bullshit- hey Nancy!" Steve cut himself off, and I turned to see that Nancy was walking through the doorframe with a little lunch sack. She always came to the video store every Wednesday and Friday to visit Steve and bring him lunch, so I wasn't surprised to see her.
She flashed a smile my way before walking up to the desk where Steve was and placed a kiss on his cheek.
"I made you a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, extra jelly." She grinned lovingly at him.
I cringed in their direction but hoped it wasn't super obvious. I hated how cute they acted together, it made me want to vomit.
"Thanks Nance, you're the best." He leaned over the counter and kissed her lips. I gagged audibly causing Nancy to giggle and Steve to roll his eyes.
"Pack it up lovebirds. My eyes are burning." I complained, taking a seat behind the counter and sipping on the coke I bought at the gas station.
"Robin-!"
"It's fine, Steve. If she isn't comfortable with us being touchy then we should respect that." Nancy stood up for me, but in a very gentle tone. I loved her voice. It was so soft and warm, it was like a blanket cuddling my ears.
Wait what.
"But you're my girlfriend, she can just look away." Steve whined like a child.
"She's your best friend. Respect her." Nancy said sternly, in a slightly more rough tone.
"Yeah, respect me Harrington." I teased him.
"So no more kissing?" He pouted.
"Nope. Not here." Nancy shook her head. The little people in my brain were cheering and celebrating, I was so excited I wouldn't have to watch them be all mushy anymore.
"I can't thank you enough Nancy. You just single-handedly saved my life." I chuckled. She gazed at me with a sweet expression and giggled.
"No problem." She winked jokingly, but that little wink made my brain collapse.
Please don't be falling in love with Nancy Wheeler please don't be falling in love with Nancy Wheeler please don't be falling in love with Nancy Wheeler..
"Anyways, I should probably get going." She frowned slightly, glancing at the clock that was hung on the wall behind the counter.
Before she opened the door to leave, she glanced back at me one last time, "I really like your hair by the way." And then she left.
I'm falling in love with Nancy Wheeler.
