Viper exits on the east side, on the outside edge of the mountain. There are a few patrols to avoid, but Viper quickly finds himself in a large open area similar to Muchi's pit. This one is actually close enough to the exterior that there's water flowing through it. Up ahead is the waterfall that flows down into the cavity.
The slope is stepped and short enough for fish to leap their way up the mountain. This offshoot of the mountain stream is obviously artificial, left behind by the Chiss builders so they can fish the waters during warmer seasons when they make their way this far north. The stream flows underneath a metal grated floor with a side railing. Beyond the railing there's about 10 to 20 meters to the cavity wall. And behind Viper to the south is
Duke calls, "I wouldn't fall in. That water's nearly freezing. But if you can believe it, even in temperatures as cold as these there are still some fish migrating upstream to spawn their young. There's a smokehouse in that area to smoke what Vertex catches. We use it in the rations when we have enough."
"Vertex does the fishing?"
"Well everyone can fish if they want, but no one can keep up with Vertex. And well... he's a bit... he can be hard company."
Viper leans down, peering ahead cautiously. If Vertex fishes here, he could be up ahead peering through his sniper scope right now. Viper squints... he can't make out any silhouettes up ahead, but scopes can often give a reflective glare, betraying their position. Switching to thermal reveals a glowing blob standing behind a waist high panel. The figure is too far away to make out much detail.
He calls Rhetta, "I need your voice changer... make me sound like Atlas."
Rhetta responds, "Done. I'll see if I can silence the real Atlas while I'm at it."
Viper switches to Reunion's frequency, "Vertex... target's trail leads to your sector. Have you spotted any trace of him?"
Vertex replies, "Confirmed Commander... just waiting for the perfect shot."
Viper leaps behind a stone pillar. Vertex chuckles, "Morkad Viper... clever trick. Zero said you were probably listening. I guess you'd call this payback for the Boss listening in on yours on Bakura?"
Viper says, "Yeah... seems fair to me. Didn't take you for a fisherman though."
Vertex explains, "Fishers and Snipers aren't too different. Both require a great deal of patience... and restraint."
Rhetta calls Viper, "Viper, Vertex is the recreation of CT-9904... that's Crosshair! He doesn't need line of sight to hit you!"
"What?! What are you talking about?!"
Balus objects as well, "We've confirmed they carry the same class of weapon... a 773 Firepuncher Rifle. You can't punch through that much granite with that weapon."
Rhetta explains, "Crosshair used reflective discs to bounce his shots wherever he wanted. They're coated in a mirror-like finish, so they should be easy to spot and avoid."
