NERVES

chapter seven — we did it
▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃

THE ROOM BUZZES WITH ENTHUSIASTIC PRATTLE, children ran between the arrayed tables in a good nature game of tag, but their happiness is cut short when the bride and groom enter the hall. Applause floated around the room with loud cheers. The guests got up for a standing ovation and the scraping noise of the chairs filled the expanse.

The dome of the glass house is decorated with various types of flowers, all of which Azhar picked that reminded him of Kyda. The branches dangle above the seating with fairy light tangled through them, illuminating the space magically as the sun had set, welcoming the looming night.

The vows had already been exchanged and the diamond rock on Kyda's ring finger added a newly welcomed weight—the weight of their future bliss. They both hadn't stopped smiling since dawn and even though, as a tradition, they were strictly advised not to see each other before the ceremony, Azhar simply couldn't help himself from getting a peek of his now-wife—stealing a few innocent kisses at the same time.

Arms securely around her petite waist, he holds her intricately embroidered shawl that is draping her arms, ensuring the expensive, lengthy fabric didn't trip both of their steps since Kyda was busy trying to keep her stability on her high heels and simultaneously holding onto her bedazzled lehenga's skirt.

Azhar's dark, navy tailored suit contrasted with the gold details trailing down her attire. This is her second outfit for the day and the only difference is the fact she wore a lighter skirt but the hefty, pristine jewellery on her neck and ears say otherwise.

Their parents' beaming faces came into their view immediately as they walk through the numerous crowded tables. Everyone is eagerly waiting for their final speech and after that the real fun begins.

"Deep breaths," the words are loud enough only for Kyda to grasp and it instantly calms her nerves. Azhar could sense the tension surrounding her little bubble as he felt her palm get warmer through their intertwined hands.

Both mothers were teary, surprisingly Jannat's expression mimicked theirs, but she quickly masked it off with a wide grin, but the subtle passing of tissue from Abhishek didn't go unnoticed.

Azhar took the chair out for her and before they made themselves comfortable, he extended his hand for her to take, which she took without any hesitation.

"This is it," she whispers to herself as she settles on the velvety seat, but he manages to catch the quiet words despite the loud chatter.

With his free hand, he carefully pushes her long, wavy hair over her shoulder only to gently pepper kisses on the newly exposed skin all the while he gently brushed his thumb over her hand, squeezing it a little, "We did it."

"We're now the perfect couple." He muses playfully.

"Yeah, right."

She rolls her eyes at him with a smirk. His sarcastic yet reassuring words are enough for her to regain the confidence she was lacking—subduing her anxiety. During the ceremony she couldn't help but be antsy, whether it was fumbling with her custom gold bangles or with the beads of her dupatta; Azhar noticed it all. He wasn't calm either by any means, he simply is good at hiding it. The whole formality aspect of the wedding was nerve-wracking and harder than he had imagined—trickier than proposing to her.

Their eyes lock when facing each other, they took in each other's warmth, serenity, and love; basking in the opulent comfort of their company, but her beauty hypnotises him once more before diverting their gazes back to their audience, who were all observing them with adoration.

"We're now married and made the rumours come true, do you think it was meant to be?" She softly laughs with parted lips, earning a small smirk from his handsome face and at the sight of his dimples, her scarlet lips tugged upwards in devotion, waiting for his answer.

"I think that we're just a match made in heaven."
