AN: Strap in, this part is looooong

Drew shoved his keys into the lock cylinder of his steering wheel. The competition was scheduled to start in an hour and a half, but the building it was being hosted in was around 30 minutes away and Drew wanted to be early. He also wanted to take his time driving there. Driving had always been something Drew enjoyed- something about the feel of the world moving around you as you speed across the endless pavement helped him relax. It helped that he was good at it. Jake used to gawk at his driving skills- he would always ask Drew to take the back routes to force him to take harder turns and drive faster. Jake would blast music and laugh as Drew pushed his foot against the accelerator. Drew smiled to himself. Damn, he missed that. Drew pushed his thoughts away- he was supposed to be leaving now. He connected the car speaker to his phone and turned on Spotify. He was too lazy to spend hours choosing a playlist, so he just put on the Spotify mix and backed out of his driveway.

'No quick head in my be-'

Nope. Drew scoffed, skipping the first song that came on.

A nice, familiar tune played next on the queue.

The more I listen to this song, the more I realise how much I relate to it.

'It's 3:45 am, and I just bit my tongue. update me on your life, and now you've

found the one.'

The sound echoed off the windows, filling the car with noise. The drums clashed against the sound of the car riding on the pavement. Drew relaxed into his seat. He'd forgotten how nice music could be sometimes.

heh, I guess I can see why Jake likes it so much. Especially when the songs aren't just good, but their lyrics hit hard.

Drew wasn't sure how normal it was to relate to this song as much as he did, but, someone had to write it. So he wasn't alone. Although, he felt as if the song was written with a slightly different intent than Drew heard in it. Regardless, he still enjoyed the song very much. The lyrics rang in his head- reminding him how he treated Jake, while also bringing out how he felt.

'Why can't you be a dick? Why must you be so nice? It's hard for me to move on when I don't really hate you.'

Drew sighed, plopping his head onto the headrest of his seat, letting the lyrics to the song sink in.

He got lost in the notes of music, and the twisting roads of his drive. Time flew by, leading him to his destination.

Ah, I think that's the building.

Drew pulled into the parking lot and picked up his phone. He took out his airpods and re-connected the phone from the car to his headphones.

'My favourite colour is you.'

Drew climbed out of his car and made his way into the building.

'You're vibrating out my frequency.'

He was an hour early, as planned.

'My favourite colour is you'

He opened up the door to be greeted with silence. He was glad he was playing his own music.

'You keep me young and that's how I wanna be.'

He started walking to the front of the auditorium. Seats were first come first serve, and he wanted good seats.

'My favourite colour is you.'

He didn't want to sit in the very first row, though. They were never that good- always too low compared to the stage.
