SONG FOR THIS CHAPTER- NIGHT CHANGES by ONE DIRECTION

H A R R Y

Once I am striped down to my bare body, my hands fumble to reach the tap. After turning it, warm water comes from the shower head above me. I let the water run down my body, embracing the feel of it trickling down my skin. I never needed a second shower; I just wanted some time to think. My mind is set on the phone-call from earlier.

"Hello Harry, I just called to tell you something very important." King Ivan's distinctive serious tone ringing in my ear. I lean against the cracked wall of rooftop balcony.

"What is it?" I ask hesitantly, but making sure not to make my nervousness known.

"I heard the Courageous Fair Maiden has gone missing." That's the name every Mighty uses for Caroline. They think of her like some evil bad blood, but they don't know the sweet girl I know. It's not even her fault anyways.

"I know." I respond, dragging my short sentence. Could he possible know that I took her?

"Well, I feel like this is a good chance for us. There's are several search parties from the Courageous side, now..." The line goes blank, only sharp breathing to be heard from the both of us.

"...Now what?" I ask him, secretly afraid of what's going on in his head.

"So now the Mighties should get to her before the Courageous do. And fast." He says and I lean myself against the wall again, looking straight at the collection of oak trees in the distance. I can feel my blood run cold at the thought of Caroline in the Mighties hands. Who knows what they'll do to her.

"And why are you telling me this?"

"I just found the document you signed when agreeing to help retrieve the potion's magic to the Mighties again." He says and my heart thumps loudly. When he says retrieve, it really means murder and doing all types of gruesome things in order to get the potion back.

He continues to talk. "When you agreed to it, you also agreed to never quit the job until it's been taken care of. So until we find the Courageous Fair Maiden and drain her blood, you are still working for me." I ball my hands into fists, thinking of all my wrongs. At that time, I was blinded so much by the thought of the Mighties killing my mother that I didn't even think about the innocent girl containing the magic.

Who knew I would have fallen in love with her?

"No. I refuse to do this. I'm done, so leave me alone." I hate to talk this way to him, but the guilt in me can't pour out any other way.

"I'm afraid not, boy. The job isn't-" Mid-sentence, I end the call. I know what he's going to say already...that I can't quit.

That I still have to work for him.

That I still have to play a part in killing Caroline.

I stand in the shower, replaying the incident over and over again. Before I even notice, soft sobs escape my lips as I'm thinking. Tears streaming down my face, fading away and running down my body as it mixes with the warm water. What am I going to tell Caroline? As my lowered head is held in my arms, the water droplets from my soaked hair fall onto the tiles beneath me.

How will it feel when you lose the one you love all because of your stupid decision? I can already picture the horrified look on Caroline's face when she finds out that I'm a Mighty who has to kill her. She put all her trust in me, made me a better man, counted on me to never break her heart...
