As they left the palace of the Heavenly Emperor, Mother Willow and Thinas had to pass through the crowd of deities that had gathered there. Although there were so many citizens gathered here, it was shocking just how many hadn't made it and were trapped out there in the thickening jungle of plant tendrils.
Leaving wasn't easy either as they were accosted with each step the pair took through the crowd by people desperate to know when they could get back to work.
"When are things going to be back to normal?" Several people asked. Mother Willow didn't blame them, she could see the fear in their eyes at the prospect that they wouldn't be able to fix it. Even in the Heavenly Realm, the deities were just as desperate to return to their false sense of security that their daily routines provided them as the mortals were.
That wasn't really an answer that they could give until they got out there and were able to assess exactly what state Dythos was in. It would be inappropriate to try and guess how long it would take at this moment in time. Improperly stating a timescale for dealing with the problem would only get people's hopes up and if it ended up taking a lot longer to sort out then neither of them wanted to deal with enraged citizens demanding answers as to why.
On a day like this, a senior member of the Heavenly Realm knew not to add even more work stress to your plate. Especially not prematurely.
When they made it out of the crowd and out of the impressive entrance doors, they found the Empress commanding a relatively small number of deities on the steps up to the palace. Under her watchful command, they were working together to keep the vines from encroaching on the building.
The crowd of people behind the senior deities surged behind them as everyone pushed and shoved one another to see what they were doing. As they spilled out onto the steps, the Empress was nearly knocked off of her feet.
As she teetered on the steps, almost losing her balance and being sent down into the ever winding and undulating vegetation below, the strong arms of one of the forge goddesses managed to catch her.
"Everyone please calm down. Thinas and I are going to go deal with this and it should be resolved quickly." Mother Willow attempted to sooth the overly flighty crowd. Wherever there was a frightened crowd, there was the potential for things to get very dangerous very quickly. All it took was one person to loose their head and then it would start a chain reaction through everyone.
"Please try to do it quickly," a small deity asked, no larger than a two or three year old human child. "I left a pot of water boiling at home."
A fire deity whose body resembled that of a glowing coal, patted them on the shoulder nearly knocking them to their knees with the force of his hands and promised to help if something had indeed gone wrong. Having a fire deity on your side during a fire was just as helpful as having a wind or water deity.
This is not the time to teach the reader about the importance of the fire triangle. Though I do encourage you to look it up for yourself.
Mother Willow and Thinas left with everyone's well wishes and the promise of being repaid in the future by pretty much everyone that was there once the crowd calmed a little.
Helping to solve a crisis was something that you should want to do if it's within your power to do so. Getting paid to do that was secondary. Neither of them were wanting for anything, in particular Mother Willow who had existed potentially even before the concept of time had existed. It was highly likely that neither of them would be calling in these favours in the future.
