The City of Hades

Downtown funk up

As we stepped out of the Olympiad, Thane immediately turned right and started walking along the pavement, and somehow without even glancing at the pedestrians he never ever bumped into a single one of them.

It was sunny out, with a slight breeze carrying the scent of the apple trees planted along the pavement next to each bench, I quickly realised Thane was almost out of sight, so I jumped to follow after him.

"Hey, you're going a bit too fast! Hold up!"

I tried to push my legs harder, and catch up to the 6ft 2 plank of wood, he was a real slender guy with an almost deathly parlour to his skin and sharp features that would make any girl swoon, if only he wasn't wearing all black that is, looked as if he was going to a funeral.

"No, speed up!"

"Well aren't you a real charmer." I said, rolling my eyes behind his back.

"Did you just roll your eyes at me?"

Oops!

"Umm... Nope!"

"Never mind, tell me would you like to know how we found your daughter?" He said, slowing his pace considerably, which made it easier for me to catch up.

"Yes, tell me everything, how you found her, if she's okay and what she's like?"

"Let's start at the beginning then, Once upon a time there was a man, he was a lonely old man who was tired of his life and the work he did, he decided to visit another place to somehow unwind or something to that effect, there was no visiting family as they did not like him much and he didn't really have much friends either."

"So he wandered the streets with no real destination in mind, until he happened to hear the crying of an infant, and against every molecule in him he decided to find the child but happened upon an horrendous sight, there was two men, one had the babe in his arms and the other had a cardboard box, the man set the box down and the other put the baby inside, our Mr had just seen abandonment in all its glory, he was appalled at the treatment of the youth so waited until the two men left and collected the babe, he took her home and raised her. That man is kinda my boss, he sent me looking for you, I have to say it's been a long five years."

"You've been looking for me for five years?!"

"Yes, cumbersome to say the least."

"Well, thank you then, the two men that abandoned my daughter was my father and uncle, they had a reputation that needed protecting and found that the best way to snuff talk was to get rid of the root source to the problem."

I could see him pause at that but then simply seemed to brush anything he had to say to that, off.

"So I see people haven't truly changed over the Millenia."

"I'm sorry, what did you say?"

"Nothing of import, now you had asked me of her personality, I'd have to say she's quite a ray of sunshine, she really lights up our dreary home, there's always some mischief she gets upto in her spare time, she hated veggies but listens well and eats them, well not until you promise dessert after of course. She's quite strong willed and doesn't always takes no for an answer however she shows a lot of compassion for someone her age, she's got a big heart."

"Thank you for that, I've always been scared of her going into the foster system and experiencing the horrors of foster parents but it sounds like you and your boss do truly care for her."

"I've said nothing about me looking after the youth."

"You didn't have to, I could tell by the great detail you went into that you've been there for her as she grew up."

"..."

Look at Mr shy, miracles do happen.

Slowly we turned into an alleyway along the street that looked old and moldy, the brick wall seemed to be covered in graffiti and other art while the floor was littered with all types of dirt, slowly Thane stopped in the middle of the alley and faced the right wall.

"Why are we stopping?"

"We're here."

"You taking the piss at me, right?"

"I'm afraid not, hang on one second."

Slowly he pulled a cane out of his coat, where it came from I have no idea, I don't think anyone could hide a cane that size in their coat in the first place.

"Where'd that come from?"

"Shhh!"

With a deep breath and a flick of his wrist, the cane started to grow in size, completely towering over his height. The top of the cane curved at the end into a blade that formed a scythe as a whole.

"What the fuck? Who are you?!"

"I'm death, pleasure to meet you sweet." He grinned, he gripped the scythe and swung the blade across the wall diagonally, causing a rip to form seemly in the fabric of space.

"What.... What is.... Who.... No! No! No! This is not real."

"Well then, ladies first."

With that said he gripped my arm and swung me through the cut in the wall and I fell black screaming.

Until I landed on my back, in a patch of grass, seeing stars.

When I looked back to the portal, I saw Thane step through and the rip close up behind him.

"What is this?! Where did you take me?!"

"Stop with the shouting, I'm taking you to see your daughter, my boss can explain everything better."

I quickly got up and stood further back from him.

"You just pulled out a scythe and said you were death, who's you're boss" I asked, pointing my shaky finger at the man who seemed to be taller somehow.

"Think through all the questions I asked you today, you're a smart woman I'm sure you could figure it out."

'What are your thoughts on the Greek gods of Olympus?'

"Oh my god, Hades, your boss and the man that has my daughter is Hades!"

"Welcome to the underworld, sweet."
