It was the day when Shiratorizawa lost to Karasuno.
Everybody was shocked, surprised and the people who cheered for us as well as my team was heartbroken and sad.
As Shiratorizawa's manager, I was deeply hurt, and it pained me to see tears dwelling in the eyes of my team, who were also close friends of mine.
My words got stuck in my throat as I wanted to say anything because I was completely speechless.
When some players told me that they were heartbroken because they just wanted to win in their last year, my heart shattered into uncountable pieces, and silent tears tolled down my cheeks. My stomach felt as if it would push the coffee I had for lunch up every moment.
As the eyes of the members focused on the coach and me, with the desperate need to hear hope giving words, I still couldn't say anything.
More tears stung in my eyes and blurred my vision, and so I did the only thing I was capable of doing. Each member received a big hug from me until surprisingly every member was hugging each other. We had a really comforting group hug where everyone expressed their own feelings. We were just a bunch of people who held each other in hopes of easing the pain.
The coach spoke up, and the moment of comfort was brutally ruined by his harsh words.
"I am disappointed, and for a punishment, you will do 100 serves..."
The team members nodded and went to change themselves before heading to the bus. I was sure that everyone one of was thinking about the upcoming punishment they had to fulfill.
I tried to talk with the coach about it, and in the end, they all 'only' needed to do fifty serves before they could go to their rooms..
In their eyes, I could see the relief and thankfulness when they heard that their punishment was not as much as before.
The bus ride was silent, and everyone was busy with their own thoughts.
I sat beside Ushijima and tried to at least lift some of his anger and sadness off his shoulders. It was and will be a burden to him in the future.
"You did great today ,honey. Everything happens for a reason, but no matter what, I won't leave your side."
His head sank on my shoulder as he hid his face behind my shoulder. Ushijima started to listen to some music while I massaged his scalp and watched his face. The beautiful green eyes were closed and moved every now and then. It was for sure exhausting for everyone.
When we arrived at the school, the team headed directly to the gym while I filled their water bottles. I wouldn't leave them alone. We were a team, and I wouldn't let them alone with their punishment. The coach was filled with anger and shouted at the boys more than before. He wanted to see talent and willpower. Every now and then, I tried to calm him, so he wouldn't hit one of the team members, and after they were finished, he just mumbled something angrily while leaving the gym.
