Family. Ugh, it was so good being with family!
No, not my mother dearest nor my sister who is now in a thrupple with a man and his father. Look, I know, I don't get it either but it's working for them? I guess?
Anyways, not them (even though I've been missing my little nugget, Leo), I mean the people I grew up with. The ones I grew up with who actually loved me for me - I'm talking about Shep, Danny and all Danny's fam.
Right before Christmas, we got a weekend where everyone was free so we flew to Nevada. We met up with Nyah, Wesley, Nathan, Cozula and Alexander at one of the hotels and I was simultaneously on cloud nine while also deep in the trenches of my own brain. I had some news and I wasn't sure how to share it.
I was quiet, not that anyone noticed cause they were too busy catching up while coming for each other's necks.
"Don't start with me Nathan!" Nyah was saying, trying to hide her smile behind her glass of whiskey sour.
Nathan, who loved nothing more than to start, pulled his mouth to the side in a fashion that said he was confused about something even though we all knew he knew what was up. "I'm just saying, Ny. It's a little sus that your boyfriend of forever is too busy working," He put air quotes around working, "To hang with us."
Nyah set down her glass and flipped him the bird, "Just cause you're unemployed and a booze hound doesn't mean everyone else has to be." She said back, adding the sweetest smile at the end.
I snorted, taking a sip of my water. You would think from the sounds of it that Nyah and Nate had beef, but they don't. It's just apart of who they are, besties with a bite. I looked at Danny who was seated on the velvet loveseat with me, his arm along the back of the couch and one ankle resting on his knee. He glanced at me and raised an eyebrow, he knew what I was waiting to tell them but didn't know when I was planning to spill. I shrugged, the movement small enough that only Danny noticed. He gave my shoulder a squeeze before re-placing it back on the couch.
Cozy scoffed, "You're one to talk, Ny." She said, which was true.
Nyah's job is... Well, it's being a daughter of Henry and Courtney Kennedy, honestly.
Nyah's jaw dropped like this was the biggest shock of the century, Nate simply winked at her. Lexi laughed, "Cozy, you can't talk either." He said looking around the circle, his honey eyes full of mirth. "Really none of y'all can."
"Shut the hell up," Wes laughed, adjusting his skinny black suit tie - we all decided to dress up and go to La Sala, this exclusive, super fancy bar in King Ken. It's new and it's so nice. "You've got a nine to five just like the rest of us." He said, then making a face and pointing towards Shep and Danny. "Except y'all."
"I'm about to be CEO." Lex said plainly, lifting his free hand while grabbing his drink off the coffee table in the middle of us.
Danny snorted, "Key words, about to be." He added a wink which only made Lexi stare at him without an ounce of amusement. Danny grinned, "Man I've missed this. The Peas and crew hasn't been together in a minute."
I started nodding along because it's truly been a long time since I've seen a majority of these people. Nyah smiled wistfully at everyone, Lexi and Wes looking fondly as well. Nate was the only one who's eyes were glued on Cozy, when I looked at her I realized why. Her face was twisted in absolute disgust. I snorted right when she stated, "Yeah, no. I've never agreed to the group name of Peas and crew. I'm never the crew, I'm the main attraction." She said simply, tossing her shoulder length curly, curly caramel hair back with a flourish.
Lexi rolled his eyes, "What would you call us then? And don't say-"
"-Cozy and the gang, obviously." She said, cutting him off with a smile. She then turned to Shepherd who has been even quieter than me. I knew it was because he's been off his game lately and now has to wait a couple weeks as his knee heals after this minimally invasive surgery he had a couple weeks ago. He's been dealing with a lot, I was hoping this trip would shake him out of his funk a little bit. Cozy smiled, "Shepherd, have you gotten hotter?"
