Chapter 7:

It was Saturday and Kelsey and I were out shopping for dresses at the mall.
We wanted to wear dresses for our eighteenth party that was in 11 days!!!! We were both super excited and wanted it to be the best party ever.

"Hurry up, Josline! We've been here for an hour and you haven't found the right one yet!?!" Kelsey found hers in the first ten minutes, including the 6 minute catwalk she had between the dressing stalls while admiring herself.

"I just want it to be perfect...!" I moaned out of frustration when the blue and pink summer dress was too short and tight to leave anything for the boys imagination.

"Here, try this on. It will look great on you." Kelsey threw the dress over the stall top and it landed by my feet. "I swear, if this doesn't work," I heard her mumble to herself outside the stall.

I pulled the blue dress over my head and zipped up the back. I freed my hair from under the fabric and let it fall in curls down my back. I wrapped the pink belt tightly around my waist and looked in the mirror.

"Let me see!!!" Kelsey ripped open the stall curtain and gasped. "I-It's beautiful! I knew it would look good on you, but I didn't think it would look that good on you!" She started rambling about how perfectly it contrasted my skin color and hugged my curves while I looked in the mirror at the dress.

It was perfect.

We pulled out of the mall parking lot with our dresses in the back seat. We were both more excited than before for our joined birthday. To bad it was over a week away.

We pulled into the coffee shop in town and unbuckled our seat belts. We were going to catch up on life over a nice iced coffee. This seemed like a freaky de-ja-vo.

"Sooo, how's Jake...?" Kelsey casually asked. She knew about all of my boy problems and knew which ones I liked in a heartbeat. In 8th grade, I might have had a small crush on Jake, but I sort-of got over it.

"Kelsey, I got over him, remember? What 's more important is how are you and Chris?" She sighed and messed with her straw while looking out the window at a blue truck pulling in the parking lot.

"Terrible. He won't talk to me at all without feeling shy and acting weird."

"Are you kidding me? He LOVES you! he acts shy because he likes you and how you compliment him all the time! He acts weird because he wants you to like him! Don't expect him to come blubbering his feelings to you! You have to step it up and tell him how you feel!" After my speech I took a long slurp of iced tea, making a very unattractive slurping noise with my straw.

"I don't know, Josline..." She said, shrugging. "What if-,"

"No what if's! Whenever you say what if, you say something depressing! What if he likes you so much, he'd die for you!?! What if he thinks you are the most gorgeous girl in the world!?! What if he was meant to be your husband and you happened to meet him earlier in life!?! What if you guys were meant to be!?! Seriously! No what ifs unless they are positive!!!"

"But how do I say it without sounding weird? I mean, do I say, 'Hey, Chris? I like you, and I hope you like me too. Let me know ASAP. Thanks. Bye.' I mean, seriously? That's creepy and it sounds like homework with the deadline at the end." She looked very frazzled after speaking through her talk with Chris.

"How 'bout I try and ask him who he likes without sounding suspicious? then I could have him step up to you?"

"That sounds better then trying to get over him. Thanks Josline."

"No prob, Kelsey. Now lets go home. I'm cold and out of cash." Kelsey laughed and stood up. When she grabbed her purse off the booth where she sat, the contents spilled all over and onto the floor. Some of the money rolled under the booth to the other side, where a man in a tan coat sat.

"Um, excuse me. Some of my-," the man stood up, turned around, slapped her across the face, and ran out the coffee shop's door. When I looked at Kelsey, she had a red mark on her cheek. She looked down with teary eyes which soon turned furious. "That man took my purse!" She looked out the glass door and saw a rusty old pickup truck pull away quickly.

Kelsey ran out the door before I could say otherwise. This man could be dangerous! And it was the truck from my dream!

Plus, she's my ride!!!!
