Two kits are born; their mother despises one of them and loves the other one.
Yes, this is a bit of a cliché, but this idea is very variable - you can write the queen's POV and why she does what she does; the kits either hating each other or being together and the loved one protects the hated kit; the clan presses the mother to not care about the handicapped kit (for whatever reason) but she wants to; she's a loner in leaf-bare and isn't able to feed both kits; the despised kit becomes succesful while the loved one has a hard life..
There are really many opportunities to make this kind of cliché interesting.
